Greetings Spinners,

23 Bicyclists participated in the ride this past Tuesday and along the way there were pit bulls, flats, ditches to walk around but also many really fun downhills that make it all worthwhile. Hammer John's report is as follows:

A baker’s half dozen plus or minus headed west to enjoy the gentle breezes as we wound a bit to the west and then south.  Here are a few observations: (1) watch out for the turtle in the road at the bottom of the loop through Sugar River Forest Preserve as he/she may still be there (2) always check the outside of the tire for sharps when/if you get a flat (unless you have multiple inner tubes/cartridges); (3) claiming that an intersection is “clear” should only be done by an individual who has seen an eye doctor recently and who recognizes that he/she may be at the head of a train of riders longer than, well, just one bike…; (mea culpa on both); and (4) a sign indicating “road closed” may mean that (assuming no alcohol is involved) one has to (a) dismount, and (b) briefly exercise one’s upper body. It was a beautiful evening for a “crank it” ride.

Here are a couple photos taken during and after the ride:

The 1st Spinner "Night Ride" of the season was held this past Wednesday and there are some excellent photos on the Spinner Facebook page for public consumption. Well done, Jeff & Sue for organizing.

Please note that there are two SIGN UP opportunities below so PLEASE use this new way of getting involved in many FUN activities.

For the past 4 years our Spinner Cycling Group has had a "group ride" with the Janesville Velo Club with a traveling trophy going to the group that has the most bicyclists in attendance. Once again this year the date has been set for Tuesday June 18th so mark your calendars accordingly because our regular Tuesday night ride will begin at the Bass Creek Cafe & Grill in beautiful Downtown Afton, WI.

Here are the details of the event:

                                                      Tuesday June 18, 2019

  • Meet @ The Bass Creek Coffee Shop in Afton, WI @ 6pm on Tuesday June 18th
  • Bike Ride to begin @ 6:15pm
  • Parking is in a grassy field on an access Rd. just South of The Bass Creek Coffee Shop
  • Gourmet dining is after the ride with the cost of the pulled pork meal including cole slaw, baked beans, chips and soft drink, water & a “cookie” is $10 per person; pay upon arrival
  • You can bring your own “adult beverage” if desired
  • If the rain prohibits cycling we will still gather for dinner & socialization at 6:30pm; if you made a reservation and did not show up then you will still be responsible for the $10 dinner!
  • The plaque on the traveling trophy will be given to the group with the MOST number of cyclists who participate in the ride; the trophy will occupy a permanent home @ The Bass Creek Coffee Shop
  • This a great opportunity for some fun bicycle camaraderie

Once again the City of Janesville is hosting the TOAD Ride (Tour of America's Dairyland) on Tuesday, June 25th.  Paul Murphy and John Westphal are the main organizers and need Volunteers to assist in it's success. Here is a link for those who would like to sign up to be a Voluneteer:
