Clean
Laughs

The pub had just closed and Paddy was taking a short cut home through the cemetery when he fell into a newly-dug hole which the grave diggers had left uncovered. Paddy made a valiant attempt to get out but couldn't make it. He gave up, pulled a bottle from his hip pocket and decided to settle in the corner until morning.
Half hour later another drunk fell into the whole.
"You'll never get out, lad," said Paddy
But he did, in one mighty leap.

An elderly, but hardy cattleman from the Northern Territory once told a young female neighbour that if she wanted to live a long life, the secret was to sprinkle a pinch of gunpowder on her porridge each morning.
She did religously and lived to the ripe old age of 103. She left behind 14 children, 30 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and a 10 metre hole where the crematorium used to be.

I was sitting at a bar staring into my drink when a large, trouble-making biker steps up next to me, grabs my drink and gulps it down in one swig.
"Well watcha gonna do about it?" he says,  menacingly, as  I burst into tears.
"Come on, man," the biker sauys, "I didn't think you'd cry. I can't stand to see a man crying."
"This is the worst day of my life ," I said
"I'm a complete failure, Iwas late to a meeting and my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car had been stolen and I didn't have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab and when I got home found my wife with another man.... and then my dog bit me."
"So I came into this bar to work up the courage to put an end to it all. I bought a drink, dropped a capsule in it and I'm sitting here watching the poison disolve. The n you show up and drink the whole damn thing!"
"But enough about me, how are you doing?'

Caring for your Tile Floors

Soil adheres to tiles of all types, the most common we see are ceramic with either a glazed or unglazed finish. The glazed finish is relatively easy to keep clean, quite often just needing a light mop with hot water.
However unglazed tiles and the grout between tiles can get pretty grimy and difficult to clean.
Tile grout gets dirty in many different ways. In the bathroom, it's usually mould or mildew causing the grout stains. In the kitchen it could be a combination of food stains, general household traffic and grime, and mildew.
The problem can be compounded by improper cleaning techniques, the most common is the over use of detergent which causes rapid re-soiling.
No matter what the cause of the staining, start off with the simplest and least acidic cleaning solution first, moving up to harsher chemical cleaners if you are unsuccessful in getting the grout completely clean.
For some stains, simple household items like vinegar or baking soda can be effective cleaners. Use vinegar diluted with an equal amount of water, or make a paste of baking soda and a bit of water to clean the grout with, never use the two together.
Spray or dab the cleaner onto a small length of grout and scrub with a stiff brush.
Scrubbing in small circles rather than straight up and down will remove more debris from the grout.
Rinse well with water and mop up  remaining moisture with a sponge or paper towels.
After you have done all this we can give you the number of a good chiropractor.
A much easier and more effective option is to have your tiles and grout professionally cleaned. Once cleaned they can be simply maintained, for more information kindly give Denise or myself a call on 1800 787 184 or email info@jumbuckcleaning.com.au

Protecting Your Investment
Just as you put wax on your car to protect its finish from the elements and to keep it looking newer longer, soft furnishings need a protective treatment too. Fiber ProTector and MicroSeal’s protectant creates an invisible shield, which allows you to vacuum soil away more easily.
A once only application of Fiber ProTector or MicroSeal fabric protection provides a lifetime of protection to all fabrics, including silk, wool, leather, suede and synthetic fibres used in carpets, rugs and upholstery. Both products dramatically increase the life of all natural and synthetic fabrics. MicroSeal Permanent Fabric Protection has been used for over 30 years.
You have invested in Quality it makes sense to protect it. Both products – are non-toxic, non-allergenic fabric protection formula for permanent stain and sun fade protection. Both are a penetrator type fabric protector; this is what gives Fiber ProTector and MicroSeal its permanency unlike other protectors which need reapplication after cleaning.
We treated our handmade oriental rug we have at the office and as an experiment we poured some Fanta on it, check out our YouTube Channel (click here) for the result it’s pretty good.

Premium Surface Protection, The Australian distributor's website has loads of information regarding Fabric Protection.

"Keep Em Fresh”

Fresh is always best, right? And that’s especially true of something special and valuable in your home — fresh, cut flowers.

Flowers make a great gift, and everyone enjoys them. What’s frustrating is how quickly they begin to wilt and look tired and… then they look more like weeds than flowers.

There are a lot of tips and tricks you can try to keep flowers fresh longer. No scientific evidence, but easy things you can try at home.

You know those little packets of powder that comes with fresh cut flowers? The little packet your florist includes for free? It’s basically sugar – so if you don’t have some of those packets, just dump in a tablespoon or so of white sugar. The powdered sugar variety might be best since it will dissolve easier in water. Even cut flowers need a little nourishment, and who doesn’t like sugar?

Keeping the water acidic is also a tip some pros endorse. Acidity is vital to plant growth, so adding an ounce or two of white vinegar might make those flowers look their best longer.

Some bleach manufactures recommend ¼ teaspoon of bleach for each vase of flowers, saying the bleach disinfects and keeps the water clear and free of that smelly slime we all experience after a few days on the counter.

Another way to make flowers look better longer is kind of cheating. Some florists say to use hairspray on the underside of the petals and leaves. Obviously, this keeps them from drooping too much.

One thing that we see more often than we would like as carpet cleaners are pollen stains from lilies, its a stain that even us as professional carpet cleaners who have done extensive training in stain removal still have trouble removing. Our tip is prevention is the best medicine, so next time you buy or are given lilies, as the flowers open, simply remove the stamen. If you do it early you won't have stained fingers or stained carpets.

No matter which tip, trick or urban legend you use for your flowers, the best advice is simple: Change the water in the vase daily, and enjoy those fresh, cut flowers as long as you can!

Ask Jolly Jumbuck?

Dear Jolly Jumbuck,
I have notice a strong odour in our lounge room carpet, we recently bought a new puppy, I don't think he has had an accident on the carpet, because there are no stains. Can you help us?

Regards P. P. La Phew

Dear P.P. La Phew,
Oh yuk what is that smell? You might have uttered those words a few times, and when it happens, it is often from pet urine in carpet (quite often it won't leave a stain), or perhaps some clothing attacked by a baby or toddler.

When left untreated, many problems can arise, the most noticeable being by the nose.

With carpet and other surfaces in the home, one of the toughest chores in urine odour removal is the first one — finding the location of the odour. Following your sense of smell often helps and keeping an eye on the offending pet(s) and tracking them to the source can also work. Professionals, like your favourite carpet cleaner, have special detection devices that locate exactly where urine contamination is located.

Then you must clean and treat the area. A small spotting machine with water and a small amount of detergent can remove what’s in the carpet pile, but there’s really no way to get deep down in the backing or pad where some of the urine might have penetrated. That’s something only the pros can do. But getting to a urine spot while still damp and using lots of blotting with disposable towels is a great urine removal 101 tip. Once it dries, it becomes much more challenging.

Remember this: If left untreated, especially if the pet continues its accident-prone activities, and urine builds up in carpet, it doesn’t really dry out. Urine crystalizes and a salt-like substance forms, which attracts moisture from the air. That’s why you notice urine odours in the summer more so than in the winter, because winter air is drier.

What about clothing?

If fresh, a normal laundering should suffice. You might want to wash separately from other garments. Wash with cold water if colourfastness is a concern, although hot water does clean better.

But occasionally, urine odours can persist in clothing because of the age of the contamination or other factors. When this happens, a pre-soak is necessary. Fill a sink or tub (or use a bucket if the item will fit) and fill it up with hot water. Add ¼ cup of white vinegar per gallon of water that you are using. Soak the clothes for two hours. The vinegar, being acidic, will counteract the aging urine salts that have built up.

Bottom line? Fresh urine contamination in carpet or clothing is easy to remove. Get to it quick. Blot the carpet, rinse with a spotting machine, but never apply products to the area because that can just make it worse. Don’t be tempted by those products on the shelf at your grocery store. For clothing, put it in the laundry right away.

But if odours persist and urine contamination and related odours are ruining your day, it’s time to get some help. Don’t delay — call your cleaning experts today. After all, it pays to call a pro! Call Jumbuck on 1800787184 or email on info@jumbuckcleaning.com.au.

Kind regards
