From Mark McVeigh, Principal
Dear DBS Parents,
You could almost hear the collective sigh of relief today, as our Year 5 to 8 students finished their internal exams. There has been an impressively focused atmosphere throughout the examination sessions, and the students deserve praise for the way that they have approached their preparations. Mrs Skinner spoke to the Pre-Prep today on the theme ‘Make It Happen’, and she highlighted the endeavour of a friend of hers who had successfully raised funds to build a school in a town in Uganda, bringing hope and opportunity to the children there.
We have learnt about individual student successes this week, including the International Singapore Maths Competition, where Imp, Aun, Punpun, Mark, Ik, Q, and Nacho performed very well indeed. Kinjay won her age category at the Department of Physical Education Swimming Competition, and Kaka attended the 'Mondial Pupilles de Plomelin' International Football Tournament in France.
Thank you to those of you who attended the Y2 Transition Meeting with Mrs Skinner, and the Y3-8 parents’ seminar on the Beacon and Scholarship Programme, with Mr Lyng, Ms Babb and Ms Lovatt. The latter seminar launched enrichment programmes starting in the new academic year for students who are highly able or greatly engaged in their academic studies.
Finally, as the 75th anniversary of D-day was a huge event in Europe this week, it is important to reflect on the sacrifices of the allied soldiers, who changed the course of world history by stopping the spread of Nazism – a reminder to us all that extremism of any kind must be confronted before it takes root.
Lisa joins me in sending you our very best wishes,
