OLG Funding Report
At Tuesday's meeting, Council approved recommendations to amend the 2019 Capital Budget to include several additional projects (listed as no. 1, 2, 4 and 5), which includes contributions to the Future Hospital Reserve Fund and the purchase of a new fire tanker. Council will revisit the recommendation for a contribution to the YMCA, pending a future report from Staff.

Funding for Niagara Falls Youth Mental Health
The City of Niagara Falls will partner with Pathstone Mental Health to provide a new mental health urgent/walk-in clinic for youth in the City, the "Hear & Now Walk-in Clinic". Council approved a one-time funding request of $20,000 and the City will also help secure a safe, accessible space for the clinic that will ensure patient and family confidentiality.

2021 Canada Summer Games Update
Council received a "State of the Games" address with information pertaining to the community impact of the 2021 Canada Games, which are expected to bring 5,000 game participants to the Niagara Region, and require 4,000 volunteers from August 6 to 21, 2021. Pending final approvals, funding for upgrades to Oakes Park and W.L. Houck Park will be supplied in part by the Canada Summer Games and will provide the City with two high-level baseball training and competition facilities.

Asset Management
Kent Schachowskoj, the City's Infrastructure and Asset Manager, delivered a presentation on Asset Management and Ontario Regulation 588/17 which requires all Ontario municipalities to expand current practices with a strategic asset management policy by July 1, outlining commitments to best practices and continuous improvements. Plans for all assets must be phased in over the next five years, and updated every five years.

Niagara Recycling
Norman Kraft, CEO of Niagara Recycling, made a brief presentation to Council outlining the work performed at their Niagara Falls facility, the success of Niagara EcoglassTM, and their role as a not-for-profit social enterprise. Kraft also cleared the air on some common recycling myths, dos and don'ts. Did you know 92% of all material sent to the Niagara Falls facility is recycled? #RecyclingMatters

Rotary StoryWalk® Pathway
Niagara Falls Rotary Clubs, Foundation and Sunrise, presented Council with two cheques totaling $75,000 in contribution to section five of the Millennium Recreational Trail, which will now be known as the Rotary StoryWalk® Pathway. Sixteen StoryWalk® boards will be constructed along the trail to help promote the Niagara Falls Public Library's literacy initiatives.

Mayor's Youth Advisory Committe (MYAC)

Amal Qayum Wins Jim Mitchinson Scholarship
Amal Qayum (Westlane Secondary School) has contributed over 300 hours of community service and has been involved in supporting students in her many roles with the DSBN, Education Foundation of Niagara, Student Trustee Senate, Ontario Student Trustees Association and the National Youth Advisory Committee with the RCMP. Throughout high school, Amal has also served on student council every year, founded Westlane's popular multicultural night, and started a summer camp with her mosque to support muslim girls.
Amal has decided to study International Relations at Western University, and has been granted advance entry to the Richard Ivey School of Business. Congratulations, Amal!

MYAC Cheque Presentations
MYAC co-chairs, Daniel Krowchuk and Chantelle Tran, presented cheques to the Education Foundation of Niagara and the Niagara Foundation for Catholic Education. The Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee strives to give back to the community through volunteerism, awareness and, as Daniel put it, "sometimes even cash". The student committee raised $500 over the past year at their Skate Nights and other youth events. niagarafalls.ca/myac

MYAC Year-End Deputation
Over the past year, MYAC has worked with many community partners to organize and host great youth events: the Niagara Student Summit, School-A-Palooza, Enbridge Teen Mental Health Awareness Week and Community Mental Health Awareness Week, Red Roof Christmas Party, Skate Nights, and the MYAC Coffee House. This year, MYAC also gained Council's support for a ban on plastic straws at all City facilities and launched a fun Promposal Competition. At Tuesday's meeting, Council received information on the Ontario Government's Cuts to Ontario Library Services. Links to correspondence from other Ontario communities can be found in the online agenda. Council approved a recommendation to refer the needs of the Chippawa Library to staff. Oakes Park
Local track and field club, Athletics Niagara, has requested Council's consideration of track and other park improvements at Oakes Park. Council has referred the matter to Staff.

Proclamation: National Access Awareness Week
In recognition of the efforts of Canadians who are actively removing barriers and ensuring persons with disabilities have an equal chance to participate in all aspects of Canadian society, Council has proclaimed May 28 to June 3 National Access Awareness Week.

Proclamation: Stamford Kiwanis Month
Since 1959, the Stamford Kiwanis Club has been part of the Niagara Falls community and part of a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. The Stamford Kiwanis will celebrate their 60th (Diamond) Anniversary in June. Council approved the club's request to recognize June as "Stamford Kiwanis Month" in the City of Niagara Falls.

Flag Raising: Philippines Independence Day
Council has approved a request from the Filipino-Canadian Assocation of Niagara to raise the Flag of the Philippines at City Hall on June 12 to commemorate the Philippines Independence Day.
