Ampere looks at SVoD catalogue quality ratings by demographics + a dark-tinged quarter for new content across SVoD in Q4 2018

Ampere client update emails will now be service-specific - Analytics clients will receive one email each month.
Since the update last month, the Analytics team has published a series of new reports - details are below. We have also added a wide selection of new SVoD platforms to the service, as follows:
  • Acorn TV in Belgium, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Sweden (already in USA)
  • Crunchyroll in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK and USA
  • HBO in Brazil
  • Canal+ Series in France
  • Videoland in Netherlands

New reports include:

Profile: US SVoD catalogue ratings by demographics
In this new format of report, Ampere compares quality ratings across SVoD catalogues and analyses these ratings by gender and demographic.

New to SVoD Q4 2018 trends - a dark-tinged quarter
Of the core genres, children’s content and documentary remain strong across all platforms, but reality and entertainment are the sectors to watch. Drama—and to a lesser degree comedy—had a dark tinge this quarter with dark themes and dysfunction key.

Profile: China SVoD market
China's online video market is dominated by China's Internet giants: Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent (BAT). Each of them is investing heavily into their respective video services as video is a key part of their digital entertainment ecosystem.

Profile: Disney+ small but well formed
Disney+ launches into a crowded US SVoD marketplace but of all the anticipated direct to consumer services scheduled to launch through 2019 and 2020, it will be the best positioned to carve out a slice of the American SVoD pie.
