Hello and happy Friday!

Hopefully everyone had a relaxing holiday weekend and isn’t too exhausted at the end of this shortened week. I for one am truly happy to be back in your inbox and eternally grateful to Kristian for taking the wheel while I was out on vacation.

This week is one of celebration. Awards season in the journalism community has come and gone but now the results are in. Here’s a look at the award-winning content we produced last year.

For our work in 2018, we….

These stories were produced in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Applied Population Lab. Find their contributions here.

Scott Walker's administration until the final days of 2017, when he declined to call special elections for two open seats. A WisContext investigation of state elections records showed that a vacancy of such length was unprecedented in modern Wisconsin history.

Flying the United States flag at half-staff is a custom of honoring select dead that has taken shape over the course of the nation's history. While it's a time-honored practice, the reasons for taking the action and protocol governing it have changed considerably, and continue to do so. Find this coverage here and here.
