Youth Outreach: Cooper at Navarro

The Wednesday lunch and Bible study with students from Cooper Academy at Navarro has completed its semester.  Many thanks to all who contributed resources and meals to make this outreach possible.  Students in the group call this program "church."  School administrators tell us that those participating in the "Lunch Bunch" show more determination and discipline on campus.  Over 40 students have participated in this program during the last semester, and Cooper Academy is graduating 85 seniors this year.

Restoration and Improvements
On Sunday, May 19, 2019, the Trustees announced that Accu-Rite Roofing was awarded the contract to begin replacing the metal roof on the annex and church gymnasium.  This work will coincide with additional work in the church basement to replace old air-ducts and complete improvements and renovations.

As the construction process begins again, different areas of the church, including part of the basement, the gym and areas outside, may be temporarily closed to public and congregational access.  If you see the construction tape, plastic sheeting, or safety cones marking an area as closed, please respect this designation and do not enter.  The roof work is estimated to take at least three weeks to complete, during which the gym may even be closed during our Sunday services, impacting our fellowship breakfast and other ministries that use the gym.  It is our hope to have this work completed in time for Vacation Bible School in late July.

By God's grace and the consistent generosity of many in our congregation and efficiency of our church's administration, La Trinidad has been able to fund church improvements over the past few years without indebtedness.   Funds for improvements come from special designated gifts as well as from surplus funds from the general reserve at the end of each calendar year.  Generous and regular support for the General Fund empowers the ongoing ministry of La Trinidad UMC while also providing the bulk of resources used toward improvement and restoration of the church facility.  At present, receipts to the General Fund are below year-to-date estimates for 2019.  You faithful support and generosity are much needed, much appreciated, and keep up the momentum for improving, building, and growing La Trinidad UMC in service to Christ for the glory of God.  Thank you very much for your love and faithfulness.

Historic Photo

On Sunday, May 26, 2019, La Trinidad UMC was blessed to receive Rev. Luis Alberto Reza Franco to the pulpit to bring a word about our Wesleyan Heritage.  Rev. Reza is pastor of La Santisima Trinidad Methodist Church in the city of Chihuahua, Mexico.  Rev. Reza, traveling with his wife Cristina and a lay member, also brought with them a very rare photograph they obtained in Chihuahua.  It protrays a 1925 Annual Conference that was held at the newly constructed "Templo Metodista Mexicano de la Trinidad."  Many of the ministers featured in this photo served as pastors of La Trinidad UMC and several are remembered on the stained glass windows in our sanctuary.  We thank Rev. Reza for this generous gift for the La Trinidad UMC Archives.

How You Can Help
 Avoid the Summer Slump
Summer can be a challenging time for churches as attendance can drop as utility costs increase.  Summer  is also a time of opportunities when new people move into the area and begin seeking a church home.

Here are some things you can do to help LT avoid the "Summer Slump."
  • Pray daily for the ministry and congregation of La Trinidad UMC and be intentional about being present for worship when in town.
  • Consider joining a Sunday School class or starting a small group Bible study or fellowship group.
  • Invite friends or new residents to church, an event, or fellowship group who do not already have a church home.
  • If traveling, watch the Sunday services on YouTube, and leave a comment or remark to show you were there.
  • If you desire to contribute while out of town, please consider using our new online giving platform to make an offering or gift.  You can use the link below to access the "Donate" button.  http://www.latrinidadchurch.com/get-connected/giving/ .

Annual Conference

The Rio Texas Conference of the UMC will be meeting June 5-8 in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Please pray for our active and retired clergy and our lay delegates who will be attending.  This Annual Conference will be selecting delegates to the 2020 General and Jurisdictional Conferences.  Several of our own leaders are eligible to be elected.

Travel Plans for Pastors John and Raquel Feagins

Rev. John and Raquel Feagins and their son Vincent will be away on vacation from June 10-22, 2019.  Rev. Viriglio Vazquez-Garza will lead worship on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at all services.  For any emergencies or pastoral care needs, please contact the church office for an on-call pastor.
