Conference Wrap Up

Wow! It’s hard to believe that this year’s Synergize: Collaboration in Action Conference has already come and gone! Hosted by Volunteer Canada, PAVRO, and VMPC, it was truly a synergistic and collaborative experience, bringing the Volunteer Centers and the national, provincial, and local AVAs together for the first time. A number of OAVR Board members worked on the planning committee and helped bring this conference to life, including: Denise Hawken, Atoosa Adnani, Jo-Anne Turple, Javier Clavelo-Robinson, and myself.

OAVR was also honored to sponsor PAVRO’s Linda Buchanan Award, in recognition of our support for the conference and our role as Ottawa’s local AVA. It was a special experience having such a large conference in our backyard, and we are beyond happy that Ottawa was this year’s location, and excited that we got to show off our wonderful city. We were also able to sneak in some time for our OAVR AGM and a networking event where we welcomed new Board members Adam Janes and Carissa Harkins!

From the first keynote session with Rob Jackson to the panel discussion hosted by Erin Spink, and all the amazing workshops in between, it was inspiring to be able to network with so many new faces, discuss challenges and solutions within the volunteer management profession, and bring new ideas to light.

For an in-depth take on the conference that highlights some key takeaways from the whole experience,
