Kia ora koutou

Please remember that tomorrow our teaching staff are on strike.  The school is closed for instruction. We would love your support tomorrow so if you are able to join the teachers march starting at 12pm at the racecourse we would love to see you.

The main issues that are concerning to teachers are

  • The loss of parity in both pay and conditions with secondary

  • Workload

  • Support for children with extra needs both behavioural and learning

  • Time required to do the job to meet needs and expectations

  • Pay

We look forward to seeing anyone that can support us at the march.  Thank you for supporting us to support your children.

Competitive Cross Country
Unfortunately we have had to postpone the cross country today.  I know that there are lots of disappointed families however we look forward to seeing you all on Friday.

Iwi collaboration

Last Friday I spent much of the day out at the marae with an exciting new collaboration between Reach Education, our school and the iwi.  The focus is on working with gifted Maori students. Congratulations to Moana and Levi who have been selected to work on this 6 month project.  We are very fortunate to be involved with this programme.

Board of Trustees Nominations

These have been sent out to you in the last few days.  If you are keen to stand as a BOT member please return your nomination form to the office.

Teacher Strike - Tomorrow, Wednesday 29 May
The nationwide teacher strike (including both primary and secondary schools) is planned for Wednesday 29 May. Please be aware that school will be closed on this day as a significant number of teachers are union members.  Teachers are striking because of the terrible state that the education system is in. Many schools are short of teachers and it is getting harder for some areas to recruit staff.  This is due to both pay and conditions. Thank you for supporting our teachers during this time.
Please see the flyer below for childcare on this day.

FroGSS
Friends of Golden Sands School (FroGSS) is a group of parents who organise fundraising for our school, similar to a PTA.  We arrange the pizza lunches once a term, disco, bake sale and the fun run.  Last year we raised over $45,000 for the school, which went towards our amazing new playground!
We would like to welcome any parents to help with:
a) Organising events (e.g. the work leading up to the disco, bake sale, fun run - this can be done in your own time to fit in and around your busy schedule!).
b) Hands on at the events (e.g. delivering pizzas, selling at the disco or bake sale, helping out with a job on the day of the fun run - alot of the time we just need people for 1 or 2 hours).

If you can help in any way, please get in touch and we'll add you to our email list so that you can be kept updated on what events are coming up, and what jobs need to be done.
