Matt Richardson Leaving The Orlando Business Journal
Matthew Richardson, the tech reporter for the Orlando Business Journal, is leaving the newspaper for a job with Global-5 Communications, a full-service Orlando public relations, marketing and digital firm. Matt joined the OBJ in 2013 and took over tech reporting from Abraham Aboraya in December 2014.
“My time covering technology in Orlando has been a challenging, but fun and rewarding experience,” Richardson said. “At first, covering such a large field felt daunting because there are so many good stories out there that have gone untold. But I’m glad I’ve been able to share some of them and help give entrepreneurs the spot light they need. At times, I really wanted to focus more on startups, because I feel that is where a lot passion within the industry exists — those who have an innovative idea and are fighting to show its worth. Those stories matter because they inspire others."
Matt also noted that "seeing companies like Fattmerchant go from participating in StarterStudio to netting millions in venture capital and approaching 100 employees was a blast to report on. Speaking with thoughtful people like Dennis Pape, Gregg Pollack, Orrett Davis, David Glass, and so many more who have organized so many events are conversations I will never forget. There’s so much within this community and still a lot happening. I’m glad that the OBJ trusted me to cover such a large field and I’m glad I’ve been able to share a piece of it with those who might not have noticed it before."
Matt's last day at the OBJ was May 21. No replacement has been named and the OBJ has a job post for the position.
Matt has been a consumate reporter and supporter of our community - always thorough, always accurate, and always there when our community had news to share. Marco Santana, tech reporter for the Orlando Sentinel posted on Facebook: "I think this city's startup community really, in general, doesn't realize what they are losing out on when Matthew leaves." Best of luck Matt at your new job at Global-5. We will miss you.
