Welcome to Wandering the World

.... and it's happening in 2021.

It's Holy Year on the Camino de Santiago !!!

The last Holy year was celebrated in 2010 and only occurs in the years where St James day, the 25th of July, falls on a Sunday. Along with plenary indulgence, a visit to the Santiago Cathedral in 2021 will be quite unique, giving visitors the opportunity to view the opening of The Holy Door, or the Porta Santa. This special entrance, which is otherwise closed and covered, remains open for the 12 months of 2021 before being closed again until the next Holy Year.

During this special year, Pilgrims flock to Santiago de Compostela, where believers have the opportunity to obtain “plenary indulgence” leaving them completely absolved of all their sins. These Holy Years are a motivation behind the Camino pilgrimage undertaken throughout history, leading walkers from all over the world to the tomb of St James the Apostle in the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
The number of people wishing to walk the Camino and enjoy its many rewards is steadily growing every year. When a Holy Year occurs the number of people wanting to experience this extraordinary journey significantly increases. The upcoming Holy Year is a year that will bring a huge increase in visitors to Santiago de Compostela and the various paths to its Cathedral.

Wandering the World are taking bookings now for 2021.  If you are planning to walk the Camino in this special Holy Year, we encourage you to start confirming your journey now.

If you are planning on walking a self-guided itinerary, contact us to discuss your plans and secure your accommodation for your preferred dates. Alternatively we are holding places already for our escorted walks on the following 2021 dates:

8-Day PORTUGUESE COASTAL CAMINO: Starts in Baiona (Spain)

15-Day PORTUGUESE COASTAL CAMINO (Portugal & Spain)

8-Day FRENCH WAY: Starts in Sarria (Spain)

16-Day FRENCH WAY Starts in Leon (Spain)
The popularity of the Holy Year may not be for all our travellers and you may like to consider bringing your walk forward to 2020. We still have space available on some of our escorted trips and can arrange your self-guided itinerary on the date you prefer.

Booking early will allow us to use our expertise on the ground and our long term relationships with local suppliers to secure our preferred wonderful accommodation, where you can enjoy comfortable rooms, private en-suites, amazing meals and local wines while you undertake this journey of a lifetime on the path to Santiago de Compostela.
We've been nominated as one of Australia's Best International Tour Operators

Wandering the World are absolutely thrilled to be finalists in the 2019 National Travel Industry Awards.

Here’s what Glenyce Johnson, our Founder, said following the announcement.
I started this business five years ago so I could share my passions of travel and walking. I am constantly rewarded with our travellers’ stories and life changing journeys. It’s very humbling to discover that doing what you love and sharing that with others could lead to winning an award.  We are stoked to see Wandering the World make the finalists list amongst well known and long-established companies. A huge thank you to all our travellers and Industry partners for their enthusiastic support, this is a hugely exciting moment of us

The Awards are held in July.  In the meantime, we will continue doing what we do well, offering unique and inspiring active journeys across the world.

We look forward to you joining us to discover why we have been shortlisted as one of the best.
