This starts next week! We are all a bit excited and very much looking forward to this starting at our school.

They will be here on Monday and Tuesday for the rest of the term. As Monday is Queen’s Birthday this weekend, STOMP will start on Tuesday next week.

Siyanna from STOMP will be visiting with us, and will be teaching the children different hip hop dance routines, which they will then present to you at the end of the term, for a fun and energetic family night. We can’t wait!

Here’s a little bit more about our instructor…

Siyanna began her dance training at 2 years old and has since developed an education in a wide variety of dance styles.

At twelve years old she successfully auditioned for the Royal Family, which led her to two bronze HHI World medals and a spot competing on season one of Jennifer Lopez’s TV show, ‘World Of Dance’. She competed with dance crews Bubblegum, Duchesses, Royal Family Varsity and Mini Request as well as guest performing with Sorority, and dancing alongside the Royal Family.

She has since trained under many influential urban and Hip Hop choreographers in LA, New Zealand and Australia, such as Jojo Gomez and Kyle Hanagami. She has also attended regular dance camps including Asia Camp and Arena Dance Camp.

Have you lost something? Can’t find it in the classroom? Maybe your ‘lost item’ has made its way to the old dental clinic. It’s open before and after school, so don’t forget to go and check it out.

Just a reminder about naming your child’s clothing. If it’s named, it does make it a lot easier to try and get it back to the right owner, if it does go walkabout. Thank you for your help in this.

Have you seen our fantastic new signage that has sprung up around the school? We have awesome new room signs, that also double to indicate what teams we belong to, and we have our stunning school values signs up outside the ESOL room, near the school office.

Teachers' Strike 29 May

Thank you all for your support on Wednesday the 29th of May. The TRS Kaiako were out in full force on Queen Street walking with primary and secondary teachers from across Auckland and beyond. We are confident that the Government heard our message/s loud and clear and will continue to negotiate our collective agreement with our needs in mind. A special thanks to the teacher aides who came to support us too. We continue to do our best at Target Rd School to ensure our funding is used as effectively as possible and that our students are at the heart of the decisions we make. Teacher health and wellbeing is also a priority and we are very lucky to have such experienced, flexible relievers who we rely on every day to support our school.

Roopu Raranga

Last week our Gateway Whanau group went with Whaea Ruth to Waipapa Marae to teach Raranga (weaving) as part of a Brain research initiative. The children that went were all beaming when they got back as they had such an awesome day teaching the older students. Here’s what some of them had to say…

‘I loved teaching them. They were really good at it and understood it really easily. It was way easier than teaching the Year 4’s’ Sarah

I liked that they gave us really nice feedback at the end. They liked that we were really patient with them. They were really proud of how confident we were at teaching them.’ Anahera

Samoan Language Week

Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa celebrates the third most spoken language in New Zealand. In 2019, it started on Sunday 26 May. and ends on Satruday 1 June.

Learning from Room 11

Below are stories and poems Mrs Patterson would like to share from Room 11.

In the monring I was woken up by the warm blazing sun. I rushed outside to play with my giraffe, but was disapppointed because my friend has escaped from the rope. I was worried because the giraffe could have been angry or sad because of something I had done. I had to investigate. Suddenly a plan popped into my head. I made a notice and wrote in big words 'LOST PET'. I was so confused, how could something terrible happen like this. I galloped to the field she was not there. I climbed up something and some hooves began to halt me. Clickity Clack Clickity Clak. I was so surprised that she came back. Swish, swish goes her tail. My face lit up with happiness. Then we played hide and seek. I heard her munching on leaves, so I found her. Then we rushed home.

Learning from Room 15

WALT use descriptive words to describe ourselves.
 
This week we have been learning how to describe ourselves so someone could identify our photo by our caption. We have tried to add WOW words or words that create a strong image. These are Jess and Zav’s captions:
 

I am a girl, I have dominant blue eyes, and golden long hair that is a bit frizzy at the front. I have my ears pierced but never change the earrings. I have a cat and an older brother. My hair is also never down, it is in a medium ponytail. I have too many freckles too count and I am a year 6.

I’m the tallest in the class, Year 6 and I have black hair. I sometimes put gel in my hair and it’s also short. I come from Auckland, New Zealand. I love playing games online to entertain myself. I am a male, with light brown eyes and one sister that I love very much with my life. I’m afraid of heights, small spaces, very dark rooms and clowns.

LIBRARY FUNDRAISERS
The raffle tickets for the beautiful artwork donated by Shannan Blanchet are now on sale.  Each ticket will cost $2.00 or 3 for $5.00.  This is on display in the office foyer.
The second prize is a $50.00 Countdown voucher. Tickets will come home for you to purchase or you can buy them directly from the office. The raffle will be drawn on the last day of the term Friday 5 July.

Her name is Tumatauenga (Tu) which means God of War but she is very gentle.
