  • The Just Energy Circle will be meeting on Friday, June 28, 2019, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority
  • On May 30-31, the Just Energy Team attended the Southeast Climate and Energy Network (SCEN) Convening in Birmingham, AL. 
  • On May 18, Just Energy Academy Session #4: Energy Policy 101 & Energy Planning Roadmap was held in Atlanta. The session was led by Stacy Shelton, Associate Attorney for the Southern Environmental Law Center. The next session "Looking Ahead: 100% Renewable & Equitable Energywill be held on June 15 in Atlanta, GA.
  • Congratulations to Chinelo Tyler, Just Energy Student & Youth Organizer on his recent graduation from Morehouse College. Chinelo received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion. Congrats Chinelo!

  • The Just Growth Circle meeting will be taking place on June 14, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Centerform Downtown (115 Martin Luther King Dr. SW, Suite 4B, Atlatna, GA 30303).
  • PSE joined its partners in the Atlanta Water Equity Task Force from American Rivers, The Conservation Fund, ECO-Action, West Atlanta Watershed Alliance, and the City of Atlanta's Watershed Management Division (WMD) in their first 2019 Water Equity Task Force Learning Exchange in May. The team traveled to Buffalo, NY, where they continued learning about water equity challenges and solutions with peers from Camden, NJ; Louisville, KY; Cleveland, OH; Milwaukee, WI; Buffalo, NY; and new member, Pittsburgh, PA. Highlights of this exchange included time with partners at PUSH Buffalo, touring their green jobs training programs at School 77 and their Green Development Zone. Atlanta's team is continuing to work through social benefits language for Atlanta's Environmental Impact Bond-funded green infrastructure project Request for Proposals, helping WMD expand community engagement efforts around water equity (see upcoming dates for community conversations), and exploring water affordability solutions for our city's most burdened residents.
  • This past weekend PSE hosted its second Resident Leaders for Equity (RLE) training which was led by racial equity experts, Azizah Kahera and Muna Idow. Participants from the Pittsburgh, Mechanicville, and Summerhill neighborhoods explored topics such as the history of NPU-V, understanding how Atlanta has changed from Reconstruction to present day and using storytelling as a tool for community change. The next session will be held on June 22. 
  • The TransFormation Youth Academy will be held from August 5-9, 2019. The academy was developed to educate young leaders ages 13-17 about equitable transit-oriented development and how they can make a difference for their communities.   • On April 27, Stacy Russell, Community Ambassador was introduced to the Human Clay Health Collaborative, and community members at the Annual Clay County Health Fair. In her role as the health equity organizer, Stacy is working closely with the Project Coordinators to conduct outreach and community engagement. In addition to meeting coalition members and residents, Stacy had the opportunity to interact with Peach State Mobile Van, The Area Doctor, Behavioral Health, Clay Partnership, SGMC Mobile Ambulance, Local Girl and Boy Scout Troops, area colleges, Clay Health Department, and other healthcare advocates.
  • State Representative Dar'shun Kendrick hosted the Healthcare Symposium at Stonecrest on May 18, where healthcare, community organizations experts and others in the field focused on disparities in breast cancer and diabetes; mental health options; and, maternal mortality rates, in particular as related to African American women. Arlene Parker Goldson, Just Health Director, represented PSE at the symposium, and along with a host of community members and health, equity advocates had an opportunity to participate in the robust panel discussion, and Q&A segment. 
  • Lisa Medellin, Director of Programs, Healthcare Georgia Foundation, and Arlene Parker Goldson, Just Health Director, presented Embracing Health Equity: A Place-Based Approach on May 7 at the National Rural Health Association Conference in Atlanta. The workshop content included how The Two Georgias Initiative framed and developed to shift the foundation's thinking about grantmaking. The presentation also included the PSE and foundation partnership, the importance of aligning our ecosystem model to include the Just Health Special Project, design and development of health equity training, and encouraging leadership and communities to advance health equity. Several members of The Two Georgias Initiative, the foundation, the coalition, and Just Health team attended.
  • Congratulations to Chloe A. Modesir, Just Health Program Associate on her recent graduation from Mercer University. Chloe received her Master's of Science degree in Organizational Leadership. Congrats Chloe!

Quay Royal is a proud native of Atlanta, GA. He is a graduate of Georgia State University with a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Currently, he serves as the Just Opportunity Portfolio Associate. In his role, he is responsible for coordinating, aiding, and catalyzing economic inclusion efforts.  He also develops strategic initiatives for narrative change efforts i.e. Faces of Opportunity.
