North East Gathering 2019
 On Saturday 8th June 2019, forty people across the North East came together to learn from one another through sharing their experiences of creating cities and towns of sanctuary. Read all about it here |

PLYMOUTH WELCOMING SANCTUARY SEEKERS AS CITY COUNCIL SIGNS PLEDGE
 The Plymouth City of Sanctuary (PCoS) was officially launched during refugee week on the 19th June 2019 and it was widely attended by members of the public, individuals, organisations and the local authority represented by Councillor Sue Dann. Read more about it here |

Lewisham Borough of Sanctuary Conference
On the 19th of June, groups from across Lewisham came together to discuss the ways in which their borough could become London’s first Borough of Sanctuary. The event brought together businesses, community groups, faith groups, Goldsmiths University and the Council, all determined to make their community a more hospitable place for asylum seekers and refugees as well as tackling the government’s ‘Hostile Environment’. Scottish Universities of Sanctuary Get-Together
 23 practitioners with interest in enabling refugees’ access to Higher Education in Scotland met in Edinburgh on the 3rd of June, in a get-together described by an attendee as ‘a wonderful balance of information sharing and positivity (and food!!). Read more about the event here |

Scotland Welcomes Refugees Gathering in Glasgow
Scotland Welcomes Refugees Coalition (which includes Oxfam Scotland, Scottish Refugee Council, Scottish Faiths Action for Refugees, Refuweegee, Scottish Faiths Action for Refugees, Amnesty and City of Sanctuary in Scotland) has just hosted the second annual Scotland Welcomes Refugees Gathering in Glasgow on Saturday 15th of June. Ask Sajid Javid to change unfair rule keeping refugee families apart - by signing this petition
'Words that Burn': Amnesty has launched the next stage of its human rights education project, which encourages young people to engage with human rights through poetry. This term the focus is on family, in support of the Families Together campaign . Supporters from schools and beyond are invited to supporters to write their own poems and write one line on what family means to them and tweet it @sajidjavid with the hashtag #FamiliesTogether.
'Winning the argument to keep families together' is a new communications guide for campaigners on issues of refugee family reunion, family migration and integration.
It offers new insights into effective campaign strategies on these issues, new audiences and tested messages that have been shown to resonate with the public.
Researchers British Future and Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network conducted focus groups across the country with different audience groups (migration liberals, the ‘Anxious Middle’, ethnic minorities, grandparents and campaigners); and two waves of nationally-representative polling by ICM.

#LiftTheBan Day of Action at Glasgow City Chambers
 City of Sanctuary was proud to support the Lift the Ban Day of Action in Glasgow earlier this month. Led by MIN Voices of Maryhill Integration Network and supported by Refugee Survival Trust, Scottish Refugee Council, Cranhill Development Trust and British Red Cross, the event brought together people in the asylum system (‘experts by experience’), practitioners, supporters, journalists, local councillors, MSPs and MPs. Quick survey for midwives about sanctuary seeking women
Amanda Firth at the University of Bradford is conducting PhD research on how maternity services could be improved to more effectively care for refugee and asylum seeking women with perinatal depression. As part of this, a survey aims to analyse different models of care across England. More info here
