Calling all TV and film lovers,
For those of us Stateside, I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
I had hoped the same for Olivia Wilde, crossing my fingers it would rain cash for her debut film, Booksmart. Unfortunately, the racy teen comedy tanked, pulling in less than $9 million over the long weekend despite an impressive 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, franchises reigned supreme, with Guy Ritchie’s meh remake of Aladdin taking home $117 million, followed by John Wick 3 ($31 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($22 million).
Still, it’s not too late to nudge that number higher. The all-important opening weekend may be over, but if you’re in the market for a frenetic and gleeful popcorn flick, consider making it an original and female-directed one to boot.
Watch intelligently,
