       "Newsletter Summer 2019"

Welcome to the Summer newsletter for 2019.

Once again friends, it has been a wee while since I was last in touch. Yeah I know I always say this but as usual there has been a good reason. I have spent the last two months just sitting around gazing out the window waiting for inspiration and if you believe that you'll believe anything.

Since my wonderfully-well-received-but-hardly-sold-a-thing exhibition in March here in sunny Scotland, I have been working up ideas and rocking a significantly large mezzotint plate, large by mezzotint standards anyway,
to take out with me to Jerusalem Print Workshop (JPW) to work on next week.

And coinciding with this residency is an exhibition in the gallery of etchings, mezzotints and audio/visuals called "If Angels Cast Shadows..." All of the work on show has been made since my long delayed return to JPW in 2012,
followed up in 2013 and 2016.

I know that I am so lucky as most of the residencies I have done at JPW since 1996 have been funded by some institution or another but for this one I must gratefully acknowledge financial support from "Stuart's 60th Birthday Fund". Yep, instead of organising a riot of a party at home, the family are instead packing me off to the Middle East for some peace and quiet.
That'll be their peace and quiet then!
Actually I'll be working the crowds on my birthday at the opening of my show. No pressies please,  just make a donation to a worthy cause.

NEWS NEWS NEWS

I'm also launching new work for you on my website. There are three oils
and three digital prints along with a selection of the collages that lots of folks really liked (and someone really bought). I'm still keeping new mezzotints and etchings under wraps though, at least until the show in Jerusalem.
Click on the link either here or below to see the new releases on-line.
And as always, there is a bit about the new work on my blog.

Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, London UK. I'm also chuffed to
have been invited to exhibit in this year's RA Summer Exhibition. There are usually 12,000 or more submissions with only 1000 or so accepted...
and I didn't even have to pay the usual submission fees!

And still in Italy, my mezzotint "History repeating" (in the
IX Primio Leonardo Sciascia exhibition exhibited in Fabriano, Florence, Venice and Milano) has also been unexpectedly shown in Rome and is now
finally heading to Palermo.

Are you are in Russia? I have a new series of mezzotints
at the International Mezzotint Festival in Ekaterinburg. I have been invited out for the opening on 16th August and they have offered to pay for everything
as long as I can cough up the airfare (unlikely), and spare a couple of weeks off work at the Glasgow Print Studio (little chance)....and brush up on my totally rusty three decade old Russian language (нет надежды)!

Jerusalem? I'm hoping I might see you there as I will be Artist-in-Residence again from 9 - 20 June 2019 at the Jerusalem Print Workshop during my exhibition. Drop by and say hello.

Until then... cheers / a presto /до скорого /
