300 buses transported over 11,000 students from 18 campuses across Houston, with teachers and staff in tow, to YES Prep’s 2019 Senior Signing Day event on Tuesday, May 21, 2019. Inspired by college football’s National Signing Day, 1,299 YES Prep seniors from 11 campuses packed the NRG Stadium to announce which college they will be attending in the Fall 2019 in front of their proud parents and the entire YES Prep community.

 

On Wednesday, May 22, 2019, YES Prep Public Schools honored the Class of 2019 valedictorians and salutatorians at the second annual Val+Sal Banquet. Joined by YES Prep system leaders as well as school directors and directors of college counseling, this year’s vals and sals from 11 YES Prep campuses invited three special guests to join them as they received this special recognition.  

 

On Saturday, May 18, 2019, YES Prep presented its fifth annual Chess Tournament at YES Prep Southside, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Open to all YES Prep campuses, the tournament is divided into two categories, middle school and high school, with individual medals and team trophies awarded to first, second and third place winners. The tournament was started back in May 2015 by Marc Ybarsabal, current YES Prep Analytics Manager and former math teacher at YES Prep North Central. 

Considered YES Prep’s “best day of the year,” 1,299 seniors from 11 campuses stood at center stage to declare their college of choice in front of their family and the entire YES Prep community.

This year, the event spotlighted a senior from each campus. Nella Garcia Urban, Chief Program Officer, and Phil Wright, Chief Schools Officer, shared their accomplishments and the impact they are already making from the Senior Signing Day stage.
