On Friday, May 17, the City proudly celebrated the opening of Pauline Weaver Senior Apartments, 89 new affordable rental units for seniors! This new complex, built in partnership with Eden Housing, is located at 47003 Mission Falls Court in Fremont’s Warm Springs area and named after Pauline Weaver, a longtime Fremont resident, previous Fremont Planning Commissioner, and Eden Housing Board Member who has devoted her career to providing affordable housing for the community. The complex includes a community room, common courtyard, community gardens, a computer lab, and bike storage.

Residents have already been selected for Pauline Weaver Senior Apartments, but those interested in future affordable housing opportunities can sign up for the City’s Affordable Housing Interest Lists. This Friday, in partnership with The Mission Peak Company, the City of Fremont is breaking ground on an 11,000-square-foot Age-Friendly Center in Fremont’s Warm Springs District.

This new center, the second City building in Fremont dedicated to services for older adults, will provide residents aged 55 years and older a variety of classes and activities including exercise classes, informational events, and access to many social services and cultural celebrations. As part of the new age-restricted master-planned community, Mission Falls, this center will help fulfill Fremont’s goal of being an inclusive community to residents of all ages. It is expected to open by fall 2021.

The community is invited to attend the unveiling of The Solacii, Downtown Fremont’s newest temporary public art installation, on Friday, June 14, at 4:30 p.m. at the corner of Capitol Avenue and Fremont Boulevard. The event will feature speeches from Fremont’s Vice Mayor Raj Salwan, City of Fremont Art Review Board Chair Barbara Meerjans, City Manager Mark Danaj, and artist Tigre Bailando. Following the event, attendees are encouraged to attend Fremont Street Eats, a local gourmet food truck event held at the Downtown Town Fair Plaza (Capitol Avenue and State Street) every Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. through the end of October. Fremont Street Eats is sponsored by the Fremont Chamber of Commerce and Food Truck Mafia.

The Solacii is part of the Downtown Fremont Rotational Public Art Program, which is financed through private development fees in an effort to support the arts and create a sense of identity in Downtown. The sculpture will be on display at the corner of Capitol Avenue and Fremont Boulevard until June 2021. 

This past April, the Fremont City Council held a Council work session on housing/growth management and directed City staff to organize a separate Council work session on the Affordable Housing Ordinance. This work session is now scheduled for Tuesday, June 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Fremont City Hall in the Council Chambers located at 3300 Capitol Avenue. Staff will provide Council with an overview of the Affordable Housing Ordinance including housing production data over the past several years and legislative changes and court decisions that have taken place since the adoption of the ordinance. Staff will ask for input from the Council regarding any changes to the ordinance they may choose to pursue. This work session is open to the general public.
