We spoon feed information to our children.
We regurgitate material from textbooks and bosses.
We dislike opinions that are shoved down our throats.
We reject ideas that are half-baked.

At its core, global health underpins much of what we learn in medical school, and most of what we hope to achieve – to reduce the global burden of disease, to encourage multi-disciplinary and multinational collaboration, and ultimately to advance the practice of medicine and the health of our patients.

In recent years, medical schools have started to acknowledge this by incorporating global health teaching into the curriculum. But there is still a lack of consensus on the best approaches for achieving this. Should global health teaching be discrete or integrative? Additive or transformative? And how do we best measure student outcomes?

This year, we want to try and gauge what medical schools in Australia are currently doing in this space. We're calling this the AMSA Global Health Curriculum Report - and we want you to be a part of it.

The passage of the Medevac bill earlier this year was a big win for refugee and asylum seeker health. It allows detainees on Nauru and Manus Island to be sent to Australia for medical evaluation and treatment. No politics, no bureaucracy - just medical specialists making medical decisions.

The government is now looking at reversing the bill. This will impact the lives of hundreds of people and undoes all the hard work that went into making this law.

IFMSA is extremely proud to present you the first-ever report on its National Member Organisations’ contributions towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals!

The report was created by the IFMSA Taskforce on United Nations and summarises the activities carried out by medical student associations around the world to advance the sustainable development agenda of the United Nations. Our very own AMSA Code Green even gets a mention - a phenomenal achievement!

Recognising the physical and mental health of each and every person as a precious gift. It means calling each human on this globe your neighbour, and loving your neighbour as yourself.
