Have your say on BID2
Over the next week, you will receive a ballot paper giving you the opportunity to vote on whether you would like the Northwich Business Improvement District to continue for a further five years.

The ballot will close at 5pm on 27th June 2019. The result of the ballot will be declared on the 28th June or as soon as possible after that date.

Over the past five years the BID has overseen and delivered a range of projects to promote the town and increase footfall including the development of the Visit Northwich website, the running of seasonal Extravaganzas alongside NTC and other partners, provision of workshops and training courses for staff of BID businesses and marketing support for externally run events such as the CW9 festival, the Northwich River Festival and activity at Barons Quay.

The BID is there for businesses so make sure you engage with the BID team and tell them what is most important to you and what you would like to see.

For more information on the Northwich BID and what we’re setting out to deliver in the town for BID2, visit our website, view the proposal document or simply check out the video.

Town centre cleansing and image improvements
Cleansing

Due to additional investments made through the cleansing contract with the NTC, the general cleanliness of the town continues to improve.

As you may have noticed, the bins across the town centre were recently thoroughly cleaned by CWaC staff following a long-standing request from NTC and BID.

CWaC also made some investments in a new piece of jet washing equipment which the BID and NTC will be able to loan in order to continue improving the town’s cleanliness. The BID will liaise with town clerk Chris Shaw in the upcoming weeks to look at how frequently this will be required.

Image Improvements

Friday 14th June will see a voluntary group of Groundwork CLM colleagues cleaning up some of the grot spots in Northwich town centre.

Included in this clean-up is the land opposite Sainsburys car park, which has become overgrown and unkempt.

The team has received permission from the landowner to undertake the works and they’re looking forward to getting stuck in!

Ready, steady, plant!
Last year we were pleased to be presented with the Silver Gilt award when the BID entered Northwich into the RHS In Bloom competition for the very first time.

This year we’re coming back for Gold!

The 2019 Awards are back and we have submitted our application for the Town Centre and BID categories and have already begun planning activities across the town.

Businesses will also be encouraged to participate in this year’s ‘Best Dressed’ business competition and we will also be launching a ‘Best Dressed Pub’ competition!

Judging will take place on 30th July so keep your eyes peeled to find out ways in which you and your business could get involved.
Visual Arts Cheshire will be running a gallery in Barons Quay, Radiate Arts will be exhibiting workshop pieces in Obeid Galleries and Northwich Library will host a collection of art and artefacts to mark the 100th anniversary of Sir John Brunner’s death and the impact he had on this area.

The festival also comprises a series of other events which are set to once again draw crowds into the town centre.
Let’s take a look at last year’s winning businesses!
Join us in becoming a Makaton Friendly Town
Makaton is based on British Sign Language and is designed to support spoken language with signs and symbols alongside speech to help people communicate.

The scheme works by recognising organisations and communities that strive to make their services accessible to people who use Makaton to aid their communication.

We’ve working with Cheshire Downs Syndrome Group (CDSG) to develop a Makaton Friendly Town and the initiative is definitely gathering pace, with 13 businesses already trained in Makaton Sign Language!
Join one of the 15 other businesses booked in for training by emailing Lucy on Lucy.Liddiard@cdssgroup.org.uk or Jane on Jane.Hough@groundwork.org.uk.
What are the benefits?
  1. Create a warm and welcoming environment where everyone is included
  2. Increased customer satisfaction
  3. Increase staff satisfaction by investing in training
  4. Increase your business by promoting Makaton Friendly Status
  5. Increase your network in the Northwich area by being part of a Makaton Friendly Group
  6. Be part of the first town in the North West to receive Makaton Friendly town status

Competition celebrating UK high streets returns for 2019!
The Great British High Street awards recognise and celebrate achievements on the UK’s high streets, across the ‘Champion’ and ‘Rising Star’ categories.

Northwich was highly commended in the Great British High Street 'Rising Star' category last year, praising the level of aspiration and initiatives within the town centre.

The BID will once again be submitting an application to GBHS on behalf of Northwich. We will keep businesses updated once the application is submitted over the course of the upcoming weeks.
Take a look at last year's GBHS video, celebrating everything about Northwich and its people!

Live From Northwich; Featuring Viva Coffee and Juice Bar
This week’s Live From Northwich features Viva Coffee and Juice Bar, one of Northwich’s many independent eateries.

We popped in to take a look at their recent renovation and enjoyed a quick chat with manager Chad.

Chad was quick to praise the people of Northwich and how friendly all of their customers are. Viva has its regulars like many of the establishments across town and Chad mentioned how he loves seeing familiar faces frequent the café. We also discussed how great it is to be part of a unique market town like Northwich.
