Last week, there was a rash of car burglaries in District 34, in Belle Meade Highlands & also in south Green Hills around Tyne Blvd. Park Smart means: Locked vehicle. Parked in your garage or a well-lit (motion sensor lighting) & visible area of your driveway. Nothing of value (no phone chargers, sunglasses, spare change) visible inside. Please do not let our area get the reputation as “easy pickings” for thieves. Make a habit of locking your vehicles, garages, outbuildings, & of course, your home.

From Sgt. Rucker at West Police Precinct:

“Good Morning. Thank you for reaching out to us concerning this important situation involving vehicle burglaries. In regards to the vehicles that were affected in your district all but two were left unlocked. One vehicle that was stolen had the keys left inside and the other was locked and possibly slim jimmied. Extra patrol for your district and extra patrol assignments have been scheduled for the Belle Meade Highlands Community. Please inform your community that this is a trend all of Davidson County is experiencing at the moment.”

GUIDE TO THE METRO BUDGET
It has been a privilege to be appointed to and serve on the Budget & Finance Committee for the last four years. This committee requires extra time, meeting on Mondays before regular Tuesday Council meetings. I ran for office on a platform of fiscal discipline, and have often been one of few voices asking tough questions and speaking up against bad deals and financial decisions. In my opinion, our budget process is broken and does not serve our citizens well. The mayor's budget falls short on many fronts. Councilman Mendes has submitted a substitute budget and Councilwoman Vercher will submit an additional substitute next week. We had our first budget work session this past Thursday and will meet again on Monday. Council must pass the annual budget before July 1.
