As we approach the end of the Mahe Ramadan, I pray that Allah (swt) accept all our good deeds and fasting in this Holy Month and reward us amply with His infinite generosity. Ameen.
I’d like to firstly thank you for your support of our Ramadan Relief Appeal this year. We are aiming to tackle starvation within some of the most heavily-deprived parts of Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and your donations towards this appeal are making a huge difference to thousands of lives. This year a record amount has been disbursed for Ramadan Relief – just over USD 2 million, to 20 countries worldwide. From Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, various African countries, Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, India, Pakistan and so on. But we need your help to do more. Not only do we work in all these countries, your support with Ramadan Relief also helps the deserving in the Khoja Community too – in Africa, India and Pakistan. Many of whom are facing economic hardships.
Furthermore, the situation in the Middle East continues to be highly distressing. The scale of the disaster in Yemen is unthinkable. Whilst we don’t hear much on the Media the crisis in Yemen is one of the worst on record.
Today in Yemen, 8 out of 10 children require emergency aid. UNICEF have said that at least one child dies every 10 minutes in Yemen from malnutrition and preventable diseases. Millions of children lack access to clean water and sanitation. An estimated 20 million men, women and children face daily hunger and are on the brink of starvation. There is still time to donate, as the funds are also being used towards long-term solutions that will help deserving individuals and families to break free from the poverty cycle.

The new Tarbiyah curriculum, the result of over five years’ research and deliberations, has been tailored to the needs of today’s madrasah students. This flagship project of The World Federation spreads the benefits of a new integrated approach to Islamic education, and has taken a step forward after a visit by MCE (Madrasah Centre of Excellence) leaders to Madagascar. The integrated approach has been adopted by more than 35 madrasahs around the globe, with many more in the pipeline awaiting training. Read about the MCE trip to Madagascar here.
This month we sadly said goodbye to a passionate man and a compassionate doctor, Dr. Abbas Moledina, lived his seventy-four years as a truly exemplary servant of humanity. Learn about the life he lead here.
Thank you to everyone who has been contributing their say on KhojaNews.org. This platform is a great way to share important stories which are community-led, with all the content owned, published and written by the Khoja world. We had over 5,600 unique visitors to the website last month, and that in itself tells us just how much potential the website has. We’ve had some really interesting articles lately which I would strongly encourage you to read, if you have not done so already. I personally found the article on The Lavatia of Oman: Arabs or Khojas is fascinating!

Khums Seminar Article
The World Federation's Islamic Education department, in collaboration with The Council of European Jamaats, held a highly informative Khums seminar on Saturday 4th May 2019 at Hujjat Islamic Centre. The seminar aimed to provide practical guidance on how Khums is to be calculated according to the most up-to-date rulings of Ayatullah Sistani (may Allah protect him). Read the full summary here.

Train the Trainer Safeguarding
On Saturday 27th April, staff from various madaris came together to take part in a two-day residential course in safeguarding. The objective of the course is to train up members of staff and give them the tools to be able to deliver the training in their own Madrasah. Find out more about this useful informative event here.

The Lady Fizza Quran Competition Ramadhan Challenge
There is still time to enter the Lady Fizza Quran Competition Ramadhan Challenge- an initiative to encourage individuals to look into the Quran. Each day a question will be released on their Social Media Accounts. Deadline for submission is Saturday 8th June. Competition is open to all individuals in the UK and Europe. Winners will be announced the closing ceremony!
