June 2019

Manure Sale and Delivery

Thank you to all the parents, athletes, coaches and teams that came out to help us with our manure sale this year to make it once again a success. We appreciate the fact that you know what it takes to make our club successful with this sale as without it we would not have the programs, coaches or the equipment. We paid our rent this week so that was wonderful.

A big thank you goes to CAT for lending us their front-end loader to help with filling bags and to Daniel Elke who operated it all 3 days for us! And to TRU for giving us a great spot to work in and from. And to Fortune Drive Safeway and Save on Foods for the contribution of gift cards, and Shoppers Drug Mart for the gift………we thank you all! We hope we can continue to count on this support next year.
Derm Strong, one of our Master athletes, a club member, and an official was around during the bagging and delivering of the manure. He took quite a few photos of the activities and the people who were there to help. These photos can be seen in a bit of a slideshow by following the link below this picture.

So to thank you (our members and families) we are having a  late Spring BBQ on June 4, 2019, at the throws area at TCC. All you have to bring is a chair and a good attitude! Everything else is on us!  You can check out the new discus/hammer cage the city has purchased for us and they are also putting new shale in the shot-put areas as well.

BC High School Provincial Championships

We are looking forward to seeing our high school athletes compete and the results at the BC High School Championships taking place in Kelowna on May 30/31/June 1. We are proud of all of them and hope they do well.

We thank all of our volunteers and officials for the hard work they did hosting 4 major meets in 17 days! Wow! We are hoping next year not to repeat that as it was tasking on everyone, however, we are thankful we have such a good group of dedicated officials here in Kamloops to see us through thick or thin! Thank you to Brian Beck for the many hours he puts in preparing our meets, with creating our heat sheets, seeding, etc. and making sure everything is ready to go in lots of time.

Sunset Throws Series

We have some throws meets that we would like you to come out and support this year, or lend a helping hand if you have extra time. It’s a Sunset Series that will take place from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm on June 6, July 3, and Aug 17 this year.

Spring/Summer Employees

We welcome our summer students Logan Hwang, Calum Carrigan, Hanneli Ladyman and Cheynne Arnouse for 8 weeks of the spring/summer. We thank Service Canada (federal government) for sponsoring this program. These students did an amazing job so far for us not only at our meets but with helping at the zone and district meets when they could as well as giving coaches a hand when possible.

BC Championship Jamboree

The BC Championship meet will be held in Kamloops on July 5-7 this year. Check out the schedule on our website at www.kamtrack.ca This meet is for athletes 14 to 34 of age. Athletes will be trying to qualify for National Legions and Pan American Games teams. We will be asking the parents of these athletes to come out and volunteer at this meet. YOU ARE DESPERATELY NEEDED. JD parents will also be welcomed. We also will be looking for service clubs or sports organizations that would like to come out and help, for a donation to their group. Many hands make light work! We are happy to donate to a group of 10 plus students or athletes over the age of 16 to help us get through this top-notch meet.

If you know of a group or organization looking to make some money please contact Nicole Ritter our volunteer coordinator at nicoleritter74@gmail.com We have many jobs to offer at this meet, they are not hard and you need nothing but a good attitude.

Upcoming Meets of Interest

The following meets are coming up and we hope that our club athletes will participate in some of them. If you are a JD, you should speak with your coaches about what they would recommend.

Older athletes should also consult your coaches for recommendations, but we would hope that all the U16 through Senior athletes will consider competing at the BC Championship Jamboree which will be held in Kamloops this year and next.

However, for out of town meets, it is imperative that you book your accommodation sooner rather than later as some of these meets occur at very busy times in some of these cities and finding a hotel may be difficult on short notice.
