1: Freshman dissecting grass frogs as part of the anatomy and physiology component of our 9th Grade Biology Course.
During this unit of Biology, students learn about the various organ systems of animal anatomy and how they work in harmony to support life. In teams of two, students researched these organ systems and what they look like in frogs. They then photographed their findings during the dissection and prepared presentations with their photographs and research about the function of each organ and its respective system.
2: Rabbi Loffman teaching his 10th grade Navi class
One of the most important parts of SCY High School's Judaic program is the love and warmth that our Judaic staff members impart to their students. At our school, Torah is not just another subject but something to be internalized and lived - we intend to educate not only the mind but the heart and soul as well.
3: Noam Goldman listening to Hebrew language conversations from actual Israelis as part of our Ulpan Ohr Hebrew Curriculum
One of the best features of our new Ulpan Ohr Hebrew Curriculum is the integrated multimedia. In order to deepen student engagement and foster a sense of confidence with the language, Ulpan Ohr includes media (such as recorded conversations, videos, and images) and has students create an submit their own media. This methodology has been shown to improve the learner's ability to converse faster and more confidently.
4: Photograph of Alumnus, Eli Milstein and his wife Dafna from a GoFundMe started to help them rebuild after a forest fire destroyed their home in Israel
Eli and his wife, Dafna, have been living on Moshav Mevo Modi'im (The Carlebach Moshav) since their wedding last year. The Moshav was recently completely destroyed by a forest fire and all the inhabitants, although safely evacuated, have lost all their worldly possessions. Eli's biological family has organized a GoFundMe page to help the young couple get back on their feet (https://www.gofundme.com/elianddafna) and Eli's SCY High family has helped organize a suitcase of important supplies to be sent to Israel this coming week. We'll continue to keep the community up to date with ways that they can help Eli and Dafna rebuild, but for now we encourage everyone in our extended family to participate in the GoFundMe!
