Hallo!
Today was the annual Cherry Festival here in San Leandro, CA. Like other towns in the U.S., ours closes a few central streets once a year to host live music, food trucks, amusement rides, games, etc. It was a beautiful late spring day, and as I walked among my neighbors, I felt a surge of contentment.
I've been structuring information environments and creating conceptual frameworks over the past few months. It's work that can be very abstract and which requires long hours on my computer. Even with Slack and Messages, it can be lonely. The Festival was grounding; an opportunity to come back to my body; to be present among a diverse group of folks who share a common purpose. (This was San Leandro's 110th Cherry Festival.) In some ways, being there was the opposite of meditation, but the outcome was similar: I felt reconnected.
If you're in the Northern Hemisphere, I hope you, too, have the opportunity to enjoy the warmer weather and your community's ways of observing the passage of the seasons. Go outside and look around. Do it for its own sake — but also as a way of taking a break from living in information. You may come away renewed like I was.
