Our Community

What is a repair cafe????

The Brattleboro Time Trade has begun organizing to host a repair cafe in conjunction with a number of other local organizations, and tentatively scheduled for this coming October. Back in March, Kip visited a repair cafe organized through Onion River Exchange, the Montpelier area time bank organization.
Their event was managed by seventeen volunteers, and had ten repair stations, including: Lamps and lighting, chairs and stools, sewing, woodworking, small electronic appliances.  There were refreshments and a kids table that offered kids the opportunity to dismantle broken items (like a typewriter) while their parents were getting or offering repairs. Repairs were made for donations, which went to the Onion River Exchange. We believe an event like this in Brattleboro could be a great way to strengthen our relationships with our community members, and to further build our time trade organization, in addition to helping people to maintain their possessions and keep them out of the waste stream for just a little bit longer. If you would like to be involved with organizing this amazing project, or if you have repair skills you would like to offer to our event or know someone who does, please get in touch with Kip Tewkesbury or Tony Duncan!
