Don't Forget the Book Itself! A Guide to the Art of Publishing with Cassandra Farrin

How does an editor work with an author to move from manuscript to final book? What gives a book that finished touch?

What is the physical process of making a book? How can you harness that awareness to make sure the book design works with the story or content, instead of against it?

Whether you are considering traditional or self-publishing, consider how you craft your written work with a vision for how you physically want your work to look in its final physical form—whether it’s a printed book, an ebook, essays, or another format. It should be an object that other people want, because it is beautiful or informative or any number of other possibilities.

Cassandra Farrin is the Managing Editor of Amberjack Publishing and a US-UK Fulbright scholar with a research emphasis on East Asian religions and cultures. Along with being short-listed for the Bath Children’s Novel Award 2018—an international prize for novels written for children or young adults—she was selected for the FutureScapes 2019 Science Fiction & Fantasy Workshop and a 2019 Science Fiction Writers Association mentorship. Locally, she is the Writer-in-Residence at Library! at Bown Crossing in Boise for May and June 2019. Visit her online at cassandrafarrin.com.
