June is a lovely time for a stroll around Gamble Garden. The rose garden continues its bounty of blooms, the perennial borders around the gazebo are reaching their peak and the leafy shade cast by our many magnificent oaks are a wonderful respite from the summer solstice less than three weeks away.
When you're wandering through our new Pollinator Garden, don't miss our newly-installed owl box. Gamble grows a variety of delicious fruits and vegetables,so we are looking to the time-honored, natural, pesticide-free method of keeping four-legged pests away: nocturnal predators. We've made the box as inviting to owls as we can, adding an interior compartment, special shades, and a raptor perch. Here's hoping a family of barn owls will soon move in and call Gamble home.

Photographing couples at Gamble Garden
Couples pledge their vows at Gamble Garden throughout the year, but never more so than in June. June has been a traditional wedding month since Roman times. The month was named after the Roman deity Juno. Since Juno was the goddess of marriage and childbirth, weddings in June were considered auspicious. Mythology aside, who wouldn't want a June wedding at Gamble: the weather is perfect and the gardens are in bloom! Photographer Danya Chen has a wealth of tips to help couples take that perfect wedding or engagement photo. Danya says,
"For couples, it is always daunting to be posing in front of a stranger, so before you even think about how to overcome that, find a photographer that you get along with! Getting to know your photographer and vice versa is the main reason most people feel awkward in front of the camera. From there, focus on your partner. Remind yourself and think about what he/she means to you, the struggles and hardships you’ve overcome, and how you’ve gotten to this point in your lives together. Celebrate one another and the love you two have for one another will be so apparent in your photographs!"

Taste the bounty of Gamble Garden as we sample freshly picked summer fruits and veggies. Young explorers will enjoy a nature hunt around our unique 3-acre garden and nature crafts. Families will enjoy tours of the vegetable garden, plant sales, and a tour of the ground floor of Gamble House. Second Saturdays are fun for all ages, rain or shine!

Enjoy Flower Piano at the SF Botanical Garden
Free with Gamble Garden Membership
This July, the San Francisco Botanical Garden will host a music festival like no other. The 5th Annual Flower Piano will see this 55-acre garden transform into an outdoor concert hall, filled with the sound of music all day long. From July 11 to 22 look for a dozen pianos scattered throughout the grounds. Throughout the day, visitors will enjoy performances ranging from jazz to classical by local musicians. Between performances, the pianos are available for anyone to play, so be prepared for some delightful impromptu renditions of everything from Chopin to Chopsticks. Daily morning yoga, piano lessons, and nighttime concerts round out the event offerings. Aside from ticketed nighttime performances, Flower Piano is included with regular admission.
