Welcome to the winter edition of Club Spirit

Did you know that the City has a dedicated Club Development Officer who assists sport and recreation organisations to develop and thrive in the community? The Club Development Officer is the primary contact for club enquiries, seasonal ground allocations and Kidsport. To find out more, contact me on 9474 0854 or email me.

The annual Club Survey will be sent out in the following weeks. It would be greatly appreciated if you could complete the survey as it helps to ensure that we have most up to date club contact details and helps the City to gauge the current and future needs of your club.

Has your club recently had any changes in committee members? Can you please let me know to ensure that the City's database of contacts is up to date.

I look forward to sharing the latest news and information for your club and I encourage you to forward the Club Spirit newsletter to anyone who may be interested in keeping in touch with the City's leisure and sporting services.

Kind regards,
Jess Fordham
City of South Perth

As a partner in the community with the NDIS, APM Communities is helping community groups, sports clubs and local organisations increase their inclusivity and enjoy the benefits of a strong and diverse membership.

This may include assistance to find solutions that improve accessibility or provide additional services to better support people with disability in the community.

Australia Post Community Grant
Australia Post is launching a new Community Grants program. The program offers grants of up to $10,000 for eligible projects that help people to connect with each other to address local needs. Funding may be awarded to eligible recipients to support initiatives that:
  • help people connect with each other through group activities (eg. volunteering programs, civic engagement and environmental activities)
  • reduce barriers to participation in community life (eg. transport, ability to pay, or access to community spaces)
  • develop skills and leadership capacity to strengthen social and community networks.
For more information or to apply, check out the Australia Post website.
Recreation and Aquatic Facility Update
Following the pre-election commitment of $20 million for a proposed Recreation and Aquatic Facility (RAF) from the Coalition Government, and their successful return to office, the City is continuing to work with government and private sector partners to establish the required level of support for the development of the RAF project.

Collier Park Golf Course in Como is emerging as the preferred site for the RAF due to funding opportunities, significant and growing catchment and potential for a unique mix of leisure opportunities.

A report will be submitted to Council in August 2019.

Macca's Junior Sports Grants
Active lives are happier and healthier lives. That’s the thinking behind the Macca's Junior Sports Grants program.

Macca's Junior Sports Grants aim to increase participation in junior sports and encourage the habit of a healthy lifestyle among young Western Australians.

They provide grants to schools or groups within Western Australia to provide basic sporting infrastructure for a school or sporting group for an activity which is likely to encourage kids to participate in sport.

If your school or club requires equipment, uniforms or something else that encourages participation in sport, Macca's is happy to help.

  • Share good news stories in sport
  • Collaborate with the industry.

Share your stories and celebrate the True Sports people in your club with the wider community through True Sport.

South Perth Bowling Club
The South Perth Bowling Club has been a hub of activity over the past 6 months. It has been highly successful in team efforts as well as individual achievements. Well done to the 6th Division Pennants team for their win and to those teams that achieved promotions.

Congratulations to the club on being a finalist for Small Club of the Year and Club of the Year at the recent Bowls WA Awards Night. The club is looking forward to hosting the Australian Champion of Champions tournament in October.

Try your hand at a game of bowls on Tuesday evenings from 5.30pm where coaching is available followed by a scroungers competition.
