Practitioner's Corner
The Spiritual Practice of Empowerment
Kathy Nunemaker, RScP
|
|
Society often defines Empowerment as: “authority or power given to someone to do something”. This suggests that a person becomes empowered by something outside of themselves, that it is something given to them by another person. We often hear about being empowered by our job or by a crowd that is listening to a speaker. Maybe empowered by a title that a person was born with or a college degree. There are many ways that a person can become empowered by outside forces. However, often that feeling of empowerment is fleeting. Once a job is lost or the crowds go away, the person is left feeling disempowered. Some experience the feeling of “not good enough” or that they are really a “fake”. This swing can feel extreme.
However, there is another type of empowerment: Moving away from needing “the tribe” to feel empowered and turning within to realize true, lasting empowerment. When a person moves into internal empowerment they actually experience a deeper spiritual relationship with God. A deep awareness of their place with God, the God within, around and through them. A true knowing of their divine self. This is empowerment that is sustainable. This is what brings true liberation, true freedom.

From the Board
LOVE LIVES HERE!
Jim Schink, Board Member at Large
|
|
Love Lives Here- it’s our tagline and so it does! No one that has ever attended a Sunday service could say they did not feel the excitement, the joy, the love, the peace that is generated at our Center. The unconditional love that is expressed and felt in this community is special and I feel blessed to be a member.
The Center is growing fast, busting our seams. New people every week are finding that CSLBV has the kind of love and acceptance they have been longing for. They find it doesn’t matter who you are, where you have been, what your lifestyle is, what your spiritual beliefs are...all are accepted, respected and loved.
Love is what it’s all about. Love is the key to happiness: how to recognize it, how to express it, how to receive it, how to hold on to it. These are questions that we all need to have an answer to. We are all on a path to self-awareness. We’re trying to understand the true nature of GOD, our relationship with GOD, our relationship with others, and our place in the world.

Third Thursday Spiritual Forum
Fierce Loving and Radical Vulnerability
June 20, 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Center for Spiritual Living Boulder Valley
Humanity faces a profound reckoning, a collective rite of passage that is calling forth our deepest capacities for fierce love and radical vulnerability. In response, the platitudes can come easily: all the things we “should” be doing personally and collectively. And the reactive responses rooted in fear and insecurity come even easier and the big picture gets lost. The most inconvenient truths are seldom aired, deeper discussions are all too rare, and real dialogue among people with different worldviews remains almost unheard of. The good news is we were born for this moment! We’ve prepared—read the books, heard the sermons, worked on ourselves—and we are ready for the “on the job” training before us! Join transformation guide Scott Brown for an exploration of the ground of clarity, courage, and compassion, where all illusions of separation are burned in a radically loving, relational, and responsive spirituality. Say “Yes to Life!” in the Era of Collapse.
Speaker Biography: G. Scott Brown, MA is a visionary peacemaker and life and relationship coach who brings together psychology, spirituality, nature-based healing, and social change. He is the author of Active Peace: A Mindful Path to a Nonviolent World. Scott worked on the front lines of activism for over 15 years with organizations including Greenpeace. Since getting on the healing path he has applied his skills as a restorative justice program coordinator and mediator, a wilderness rites of passage guide, a workshop leader, and as a mentor to youth both in and out of the criminal justice system. He holds a master’s degree from Naropa University in transpersonal psychology and ecopsychology. More information about Scott and his work can be found at www.4ActivePeace.com.

Religious Diversity and Inclusion
Wednesday June 26, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
At the Center for Spiritual Living Boulder Valley
The Spiritually Guided Social Uplift Ministry (SUM) Discussions give us an opportunity to discuss important issues of our times in a thoughtful, respectful way from a standpoint of spiritual principle. It’s a chance for us to open our hearts and minds and listen to and consider viewpoints that may be different from our own. For more information about the SUM program, click here to visit the SUM website. The CSLBV discussions are facilitated by Reverend Jyoti and Practitioner Kelly Robbins and all are welcome. Contact Kelly or Rev. Jyoti if you have questions.
The S.U.M. discussions are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The discussion on June 26th is the second of two devoted to the topic of Religious Diversity and Inclusion. Come and share your thoughts.
In preparation for our Religious Diversity and Inclusion discussion, we are requesting that folks take an ‘Implicit Associations Test’ (IAT) online. You can access the site by clicking here. After reading the Preliminary Instructions, click on ‘I wish to proceed’ and choose the Religion IAT. It takes about ten minutes and is very interesting.
The SUM curriculum has been developed by AGNT, the Association for Global New Thought. For more inforation, click here to go the AGNT website.

Goodsearch and Goodshop
Raising money for CSLBV the easy way
Goodsearch
Every time you use Goodsearch for your internet searches, they make a donation to your favorite cause. You’ll set up an account with them (your Goodshop account works here) and select Center for Spiritual Living Boulder Valley so they know who to send the money to. Use the search box on their homepage or download a Good To-Go browser add-on to search the Internet just like you normally would. Where does the money come from? Search engines make most of their money from their advertisers. Goodsearch has patented a way to track and direct these search-generated proceeds to causes. In other words, a portion of advertiser dollars (and not your own!) earned as a result of your search, are now passed along to the organization you've chosen to support. To sign up:

|
Goodshop
Goodshop is an online shopping mall that donates a percent of your purchases to your selected cause. You’ll set up an account with Goodshop, which keeps track of the amount raised and the cause you want it to go to. To set up an account or to log in, click here. Once you’re in, browse Goodshop for your favorite store. Find a coupon code or deal, or click over to the store’s website from Goodshop and shop as you normally would. Copy the code on the pop-up, and paste the code at checkout. It doesn’t cost anything extra. Where does the money come from? The online stores pay a referral fee to Goodshop. They give half of the fee as a donation to your selected cause.
