AR & VR in Archaeological Open-Air Museums

Does your open-air museum use VR or AR applications? It is for a overview about how archaeological open-air museums can work with digital possibilities. Do you have some info and illustrations from your example? How do you like it, and how successful is it with your visitors? How was the cooperation with the digital firms? What happened since you implemented it first, what would you do differently in the future?

2019 Winner Colonial Williamsburg Foundation – EXARC Fellowship

We congratulate the 2019 winner, Dr Giovanna Fregni, an archaeologist, previously employed as Gem Cutter and Jewellery Designer. She will construct a simple lapidary machine to polish and cut gems using materials and equipment available during the American Colonial period.

REARC Conference 2019

This year the REARC meetings are scheduled for October 25th and 26th in historic Fredericksburg, Virginia. We are excited to announce that the Department of Historic Preservation at the University of Mary Washington will host Friday presentations. And on Saturday, REARC craftspeople will hold a variety of demonstrations/workshops at George Washington’s Ferry Farm. Conference participants will have the opportunity to take part in these activities while touring this important historic site and the archaeological laboratory dedicated to furthering our understanding of the Washington family.

EXARC is the ICOM Affiliated Organisation representing archaeological open-air museums, experimental archaeology, ancient technology and interpretation. EXARC raises the standard of scientific research and public presentation among our membership through collaborative projects, conferences and publications.
