STOP PROPOSAL TO ELIMINATE FY 2020 PEACE CORPS FUNDING!
TAKE ACTION BEFORE TUESDAY MORNING!
Congressman Mark Walker of North Carolina introduced an amendment that would eliminate the Peace Corps and other international assistance programs* in Fiscal Year 2020, by cutting $19.1 billion dollars from the State and Foreign Operations appropriations package and reallocating those funds to support disaster relief funding approved earlier by Congress.
Use your voice and let your elected representative know that you expect them to oppose this extreme legislative proposal which would cripple America's leadership abroad.
The vote is planned for Tuesday afternoon so please take action tonight or early Tuesday morning ( DC is 3 hours ahead) by calling or emailing your representative.

Summary on the Walker Amendment:
The Walker amendment was heard on the House floor this past week. One important thing to note: Rep. Walker's stated rationale for the amendment was that Congress approved $19 Billion in disaster relief, and his proposal was to put forth a one-year reallocation of a similar amount of funds from our foreign assistance programs to pay for that bill (he said during the debate "We must prioritize our domestic needs first"). He is proposing these cuts for FY 2020. He was not speaking of permanent elimination (though of course that could very possibly be the end result of such a misguided proposal).
The amendment was vigorously opposed by Nita Lowey, Chair of the State/Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee. Here is a link to her remarks on June 13th.
