Use of Garlon to control vegetation.

At this time Dysart has a letter from Hydro One indicating they currently have no plans to use Garlon in the Kennisis/Redstone/Coleman Lakes area in 2019 although, as they state, that plan could change.  The notice provided if they decide to use Garlon in the future need not be lengthy.

This letter is likely the result of them receiving notice that Dysart was considering a ban on the use of Garlon. In fact in April our Dysart Environment and Climate Change Committee passed a resolution opposing the use of Garlon. However in May Hydro One appeared at the same Committee requesting that they continue to have the right to use Garlon.

At a Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday June 26th at 10 a.m. in the Dysart municipal offices the matter of the use of Garlon will be discussed again. The Committee will be deciding whether or not to recommend that Dysart Council allow the use of Garlon going forward.

A small group of concerned property owners have shown interest in attend the meeting on the 26th.  Harvey Bates has volunteered to collect comments and experiences with Garlon and present them to the committee. Harvey can be reached at harveyb88@hotmail.com
