Cathedral to host Knife Angel in Derby

Derby Cathedral will host The Knife Angel when it comes to the city later this year.

Derby has been chosen to be one of the cities across the country to host the National Monument Against Violence and Aggression.

The spectacular 27ft sculpture, made from around 100,000 bladed weapons collected in knife banks during police amnesties across the country, will be based next to the Cathedral on Irongate, for 28 days in October.

Support Local Children: Holiday Food and Fun Clubs

Did you know that 3 million children are at risk of hunger over the summer holidays?

The loss of free school meals given out during term time and increased child care costs can mean families already struggling with low budgets may find it difficult to feed their children.

Holiday clubs running across the Feeding Derbyshire network aim to put an end to holiday hunger. They provide opportunities during the holidays for kids and families to come together to play, learn new skills, and share a meal together.

To fund the Food and Fun clubs a crowdfunding campaign has been launched. It runs until 25 June and aims to raise £10,000 for Derbyshire with a national total of £50,000. This will go towards supporting 8325 children and 26 clubs across Derbyshire to provide 11,490 meals and 400 activities throughout the school holidays.

Every donation, small or large, will help please donate here

CPO Church Communication Improvement Project

The church has a world-changing message of hope to communicate and sometimes the way it communicates just isn’t up to scratch.

Which is why CPO has set up a comms improvement fund for churches who lack the financial resources to improve their communications.

You can make an application for your own church or  anonymously nominate a church for a grant.  You will need to supply the name of the church, its address, and a photograph or web address to demonstrate why it needs CPO's help.

Grants are between £50 and £1000. In 2019, the deadline for nominations is 5pm July 1st. Winners will be contacted by July 20th and grants must be used by October 31st. How the grants are used will be decided in consultation with CPO.

Ecclesiastical Insurance launches Parish Pixels: Put your church in the picture and it could win £5000

Budding photographers could be in with a chance of winning £5,000 as part of a new competition launched by the UK’s leading church insurer.

Parish Pixels is a new national photography competition for Anglican Churches in England, Wales and Scotland, launched by Ecclesiastical Insurance. The insurer is calling on budding photographers to capture the essence of their church in a single snapshot.

Churches will need to submit a single photograph and a one-sentence caption to accompany it.

The image can be of people, places, features, artefacts or anything that highlights the uniqueness of the church or its importance to its local community. Ecclesiastical will showcase some of the best entries on its website and social media channels. A panel of judges, which will include representatives from the regions, will select eight winners from across the UK who will each receive a prize of £1,500 for their church.

Following this, the public will be given the chance to vote for their favourite image before Ecclesiastical and church representatives select an overall winner. The overall winner will receive a £5,000 prize for the church.

The competition opens on Monday 10 June 2019 and churches must submit their entries by 31 October 2019. More information can be found on the Ecclesiastical website www.ecclesiastical.com/parishpixels
