Bloor Street Watermain and Parkette Construction
The City of Toronto has begun replacing the 142-year-old watermain along Bloor Street between Bathurst Street and Spadina Avenue. The project will also involve sidewalk replacement, construction of permanent bike lanes, streetscaping and installation of five new parkettes.

The entire project will take until December 2019, and at the moment is on schedule. While you may wish to avoid the area by car, do help support the local merchants during this period by continuing to walk, bike and shop along Bloor. For more information, go to the city's website.

Share Your Ideas for Decision Making in Toronto
Are you finding your councillor is not available for meetings?
Is your access to City Hall compromised by the cut in the number of councillors?
Are we all feeling the pinch?

Would you care to get involved to help create change at City Hall, to strengthen the voices of the community….?  Now is your chance!

The City of Toronto is inviting Torontonians to share their thoughts on recent changes to City Council and how to support Council's local and city-wide decision-making. The public can participate online, at upcoming public sessions, and by hosting their own discussions.

Input from the consultations will help to inform staff's recommendations to a Special Committee on Governance established by Toronto City Council. The Committee's mandate is to consider the impacts of a smaller Council on the City's governance and recommend any further changes to its interim structure.

For information regarding the June 15th meeting at Metro Hall (1pm-4pm), or the online survey, visit the city website

Matching Teens with Seniors for Summer Chores
Summer is upon us (we hope), which means yard work and other chores, which can be onerous for many of our neighbourhood's seniors.  HVRA would like to link the seniors who need help around their yard or house with teenagers who may need some income or volunteer hours towards their high school service commitment.   Tasks could include gardening, cleaning, shopping, pet care, etc.

The HRVA will act as a go-between - we will provide interested teens' contact info to interested seniors; negotiations/arrangements would be privately made between seniors and teens.  If you need help or can provide it, kindly contact Lena Mortensen, who will be overseeing the project.  Seniors: please indicate what tasks you need done.  Teens / Parents: please indicate what you (or your teen) can do and if you are a volunteer or hoping to get paid.

Please note: Arrangements regarding work to be done, hours, pay/volunteer, etc. will be between the senior and the teen. It should be noted that HVRA takes no responsibility for any of these private arrangements, and specifically denies any liability for them. HVRA will co-sign for a senior’s indication that volunteer hours were completed.

Good Neighbours Building a Great Neighbourhood!

The provincial government, without consultations, is about to impose significant changes to the TOcore Plan, which will affect development in downtown neighbourhoods, including Harbord Village.

HVRA has requested that the Ministerial decision to amend the TOcore official plan be withheld until consultation and review by the City of Toronto and its residents can take place.  More information about our actions, plus links to our offical letter and press conference, can be found on the HVRA website.

Help support the work of the HVRA by renewing your membership online at harbordvillage.com/membership/ .  Be sure to spread the word and encourage your neighbours to join too!
