Bill 108 Passes in Ontario
Earlier this year, we were very concerned by the changes to Ontario's Endangered Species Act being proposed by the provincial government. Along with 40 other organizations, Ottawa Riverkeeper signed onto a submission to the Environmental Registry of Ontario detailing the issues with the changes, and how they would undermine the Endangered Species Act.
When these changes were nevertheless put forward in Bill 108, More Homes, More Choice Act we mobilized our community, and asked those of you who live in Ontario to write and call your local MPPs to signal your objection, and join the over 50,000 residents who contacted their MPPs across the province on this issue.
Unfortunately, we must report that on June 6th, Bill 108 was passed into law.
However, our work is far from done!
We want to thank you for your steadfast support of strong protections for our watershed’s endangered species. Together, let’s keep up the fight. We have multiple projects planned this summer, which include research, raising awareness, and tangible action to help species at risk.
Stay tuned for upcoming info on our endangered species work, and thank you again for your support!
