Welcome
In this edition we focus on a new era for Musica Viva and the revised fortunes of The Song Company. We also feature the 50 States of Music website, a wonderful advocacy tool for music in the USA which could serve as an aspirational model for Australian music advocacy.
Music Australia’s 2019 Contemporary Music Roundtable was successfully held 5 – 6 June in Sydney. The event was opened by Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore and included representatives from peak music industry bodies, including 11 interstate delegates. Outcomes from the meeting include initiatives to encourage greater gender equality in the music industry, and initiatives that will assist with industry advocacy and communicating the value of both the Australian music industry and music education. To help share more widely what was discussed at our Roundtable, presentation slides and audio recordings are now available for download here.
Music Australia lodged submissions last week to both the Inquiry into Sydney’s Night Time Economy and the Inquiry into Music Festival Licensing Regulations. Music Australia is joining other organisations such as the Night Time Industries Association, City of Sydney, Live Music Office and the Australian Festival Association to call for positive change. In our submissions we focused on key problems with both regulatory interventions we believe need to be addressed.
Lastly, a reminder that nominations are now open for the Australian Women in Music Awards, get your votes in!
Remember you can keep up to date with Music Australia by following us on Twitter and Facebook.
Cheers,
Paul Saintilan
