“Which DC novel best captures the city?”

WaPo dives into the question and ranks some recent book releases that cover capital “W” Washington on a scale of one to five Washington Monuments.

"They need to put people over profit"

Anti-Amazon activists are preparing their next move to protest Amazon HQ2 after the Arlington County Board voted to approve the incentive package back in March. Organizers from multiple coalitions will look to leverage increased housing prices (a 49% drop in available homes, and a 17% spike by the end of the year) along with Amazon's lack of required local investing.

Trouble in paradise

Erstwhile Bachelorette contestants and DC-area locals Jean Paul Jones and Luke S. were just cut from the show. Cue the tears. Fret not: Luke S will be returning to us little people, working at Stoney’s on P.

Hands off DC

Rep. Andy Harrip (R-MD) seems to have finally given up trying to nullify our marijuana laws, bringing DC one step closer to recreational dispensaries. But he hasn’t totally given up on meddling: He tried and failed to use the federal budget to stop DC from decriminalizing sex work.

Forage in the forest

Maybe this writer is just high on trees after finishing Richard Powers’ eco-epic The Overstory, but it seems pretty freaking neat that Atlanta just opened America’s largest urban food forest, a seven-acre spread that will produce apples, pears, goji berries, paw paws, persimmons, peppers and much more in the middle of a food desert.

Massive Music

Groupmuse, the organization that puts on classical music concerts in people’s living rooms, is hosting a Massivemuse at Milkboy Arthouse in College Park. Basically it’s a whole lotta people making new friends, relaxing and watching a string quartet. Recommend. (7:30pm)
