Finishing up the year

A few reminders as we look forward to next year:

  • Keep in mind that the SOTA webpage has a ton of information for families.
  • The calendar is kept up to date with information regarding special events, clubs, showcases, testing, tutoring, SAT prep classes, parent teacher conferences, curriculum nights and more!   It can be accessed from the SOTA webpage and also on the RCSD Link App.  The link is also included in every newsletter under Upcoming Events.
  • The Counseling page, Athletics page and Academics page also contain a great deal of helpful information.
We hope to see you at the Year End Concert and Food Truck Rodeo this Friday 6/14 starting at 4pm.  Listen to our talented musicians and chat with other families.  Food will be available for purchase from food trucks.

A HUGE thank you to Allison Bosworth and Michelle Burack for leading us this year!  Are you interested in getting more involved next year?  Send a note to sotaptso@gmail.com, or be on the lookout this fall for more information.

Have a great summer!

Arts News

Drama
Congrats to the cast and crew of Charlotte's Web on a job well done!

Creative Writing
Two sophomore Creative Writing majors — Valerie Viau (fiction) and Madison Sutherland (poetry) — were selected to attend the 35th New England Young Writers’ Conference (NEYWC) last month at the Bread Loaf Mountain Campus of Middlebury College. NEYWC is a four-day immersive writing workshop for high school sophomores and juniors in New England and from around the country. The long weekend is packed with writing seminars, workshops, readings, and opportunities to meet fellow young writers. Marcy Gamzon was one of twenty-five teachers selected to return as a chaperone for NEYWC.  Congratulations Valerie and Madison!

Sports News

Be on the lookout for a letter this summer with information about fall sports schedules.  Varsity practices will start in mid-late August.

Friends of SOTA

May was a busy month for FSOTA!   The scholarship committee had several meetings in order to review and select scholarship winners from all our deserving applicants.   The FSOTA scholarships were presented at Senior Award Night.  Thanks to our committed board members as well as some new volunteers who aided us in this time consuming but very rewarding process!

We are happy to report that we recently received a generous grant from the Farash Foundation.  This will help us support more student success!

Some examples of recent allocations approved:

  • FSOTA gave financial assistance to help an instrumental student attend the prestigious summer music program at Tanglewood, MA.   This is wonderful opportunity for this young man and an honor to have been accepted into this program.
  • FSOTA is also helping a SOTA dance major attend the NYSSSA performance summer program for dance.  This is another wonderful opportunity for a deserving student.
  • FSOTA is having discussions with the band and instrumental music staff regarding paying for instrument repair which is sorely needed at SOTA. More to come on this.
  • Another recent allocation was approved to fund refreshments for Senior Award Night.
Thank you to all that donate their time and finances to allow Friends of SOTA to fund these projects!
