YST National School Sport Week 2019 will be taking place from 24 – 28 June and this year the theme is: Five Ways to Wellbeing: Be Active, Connect, Give Back, Take Notice, Learn.
The Five Ways to Wellbeing are a set of evidence-based public mental health messages aimed at improving the mental health and wellbeing of the whole population. They are endorsed by the NHS as well as various mental health charities. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we all support our young people through the physical, mental and emotional challenges they face, as well as preparing them for the world of adulthood.
Our ask is that schools and organisations show their support for the wellbeing of young people by signing up to YST National School Sport Week 2019, using the resources we are providing to embed wellbeing into the week’s activities – and beyond.
Mental wellbeing is very close to the heart of endurance athlete Ben Smith of the 401 Foundation who is championing the week and who you may have seen speak at this year’s YST Conference. Registration to YST National School Sport Week 2019 also gives schools the chance to be among the first to find out more about Ben’s next challenge, USA2020, which involves him running a marathon in each of the 50 states and cycling between them. This challenge will start in March 2020 and is set to finish during YST National Sport Week 2020.
Thank you for all your ongoing help and support with the work of the Youth Sport Trust and for anything you can do to raise the profile of National School Sport Week 2019 within your network.
