This summer we will be welcoming demonstrators  from a couple of creative arts groups, three speakers, a musical group and more - all that in addition to weekly visits from our Artist-in-Residence.
Plan on coming, and coming back!

Fundraising Dinner a Success

Mike Duncan & Joan Chalovich cut Birthday CakeMany thanks go to all who made the Annual Museum Foundation Dinner the success we had hoped for.  Particular appreciation goes to Mike Duncan, our guest speaker, who shared insights into the history of CFMX and his part in it, all after being subjected to our version of the Quiz of the Bumble Bee.

Picture shows Joan Chalovich and Mike Duncan cutting the birthday cake celebrating 40 years of CFMX and 20 years of the CMF.

We want to thank those who bought tickets so others could come in their place, and also all who donated to the Silent Auction.   The meal, prepared and served by Cobourg Best Western, was excellent.

It took us all working together, and in the end the proceeds have given us a good start toward the year’s fundraising goal.

The NorthWinds

This Sunday afternoon, June 16, we will be welcoming back the NorthWinds, a group of wind instrument players who made their first appearance on our performance deck last summer.  Most, if not all, members of the group also play with the New Ventures Band which describes itself as “a community band comprised of adults learning to play a musical instrument in a fun, no pressure, social group setting. Many members have no prior musical experience while some have played an instrument in high school.”

We strive to offer just such a fun, no pressure, social setting for the NorthWinds this Sunday from 2:30 - 3:30.  Come and enjoy!

 Summer Programming

As we look forward hopefully to a wonderful summer, here is a list of most of the special happenings taking place at the Sifton-Cook Heritage Centre.

That’s Saturday, July 6, a great day to make a point of visiting your favourite local historic place.  We will be having our Brunch & Books Event - pea meal bacon on a bun and drink for just $5 and books 50c-$1.  Plan on stopping in for breakfast on your way to or from the market.

We can’t afford to forget our history or lose our historic places!

Special Visitors

We were pleased to welcome two special visitors who took time to have their pictures taken in the Cottage’s new Furniture Exhibit Room.

The first visitor was Katya, who had been there about a month earlier for a photo shoot with photographer Ted Amsden.  Katya was playing the part of Harriet Clench, Freeman Schermerhorn Clench’s young daughter, who much later married artist Paul Kane.  It was really a delight to watch Katya as she met herself brought to (almost) life in Ted’s fine photography.

Next we were pleased to welcome Don Mikel, donor of some major pieces in the collection, including two pieces by the Clench furniture company.  Don was back briefly from a teaching session in the Middle East and pleased to see the story around his donations brought to life in this way.  We think you will be too.
Come see what everyone is talking about and sign the Centre's guestbook!
