Kindergarten Building Update
At the May 20 Board of Education meeting, the board approved an official name for the kindergarten building that is being built adjacent to the Sullivan Community Center. Its official name is Hawthorn School for Young Learners. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 6. With the majority of the preliminary submission and permitting processes completed, work on the site has begun.
New Board of Education Meeting Dates
While Board of Education meetings primarily took place on Mondays in the past, they will switch to Thursdays at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. The schedule is as follows:

A Thank You from the American Heart Association
The American Heart Association thanked Elementary South on another hugely successful Kids Heart Challenge this year. Elementary South raised $10,364 for the association. More than 130 students signed up to take the challenge to keep their hearts healthy. 
2019-2020 Busing Information
Do you know how early your child should be at a bus stop each morning, or what to do if you need to make a temporary bus stop change? Do you know when the annual "Bus Freeze" takes place? Review Hawthorn's Transportation Information.
What's Happening with the PTO
  • If you were unable to make it to the PTO Open House on May 22nd but are still interested in learning more about the PTO, let’s talk!! We would love for you to share your time and talents with us! Any amount of time you are able to donate to volunteer is valuable! Together we can make an impact for our children and schools and have some fun! Please contact us for more information at: president@hawthornpto.org or evp@hawthornpto.org.
  • Visit the PTO Store to pre-order your Online Dial and Discount Card for $15 each or only $25 for both. You can also pre-pay elementary room party fees, pick up your Hawthorn Eagles key chain, or contribute to 2020 Staff Appreciation. The Online Dial is a must for birthday party invites and car-pooling. The Discount Card brings you savings on many of your favorite vendors throughout the yearConvenient one stop shopping with Visa, Mastercard or Discover.
District Seeks Input on Middle School North Expansion Plans

Hawthorn School District 73 will hold a community forum for members of the public to provide input for the development of the plans to expand and renovate Hawthorn Middle School North.  The event will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, at the Middle School North gym, 201 Hawthorn Parkway in Vernon Hills. 

Keep Your Students Reading This Summer
Don't forget the importance of reading over the summer. The Aspen Library's Summer Reading Program is a great way to enjoy some great books and practice our reading skills. Do You Have New Neighbors?
Please let neighbors who are new to Hawthorn District 73 know that they should register their children for the school year as soon as possible. Families whose children are enrolling in District 73 schools for the first time, should fill out the required forms and turn them into the registrar during a scheduled visit.
