Harmony Fusion Chorus News

We are hosting August AIM!
Are you ready for a Bayou Bash? We are excited to host the Fall AIM and pep rally with a New Orleans flair, celebrating the region’s competing choruses and quartet headed for Internationals in September.  We look forward to seeing you there for fun and singing.  Please be sure to check out our awesome sales table of jewelry, accessories and all kinds of surprises at the sales boutique.

Remembering our chorus sister Debbie Nunn
Our chorus is saddened by the loss of our chorus sister Debbie Nunn, a 44-year SAI and Harmony Fusion member, who passed away June 11 after a short illness.  We sang at her memorial service in San Lorenzo on June 29, as the chorus was such a huge part of her life in song and friendships.

Debbie first sang baritone with the Belles of Eden based in San Leandro. Later she joined Harmony Bay Chorus in Berkeley along with her sister Billie.  Debbie also sang in the quartet Bay Breeze with tenor, Una Colyer, lead Harriet Miller, and Bass Alpha Anderson.  She served as baritone section leader and volunteered for many positions including chorus treasurer.  When Harmony Bay merged with Harmony Crossroads of Pleasanton to form Harmony Fusion, Debbie switched to bass and was always an integral member of the section for every performance and regional contest.  Though Debbie was not up to competing with us in May, we were so happy that she was able to come to Reno to cheer us on – and play the penny slots too – her other favorite Reno activity.

We all miss her were yet glad we laughed, we loved, we sang together...
It was off to the big Apple for Mission Valley Chorus!

We were so honored to be asked to perform at Carnegie Hall.  We prepared a fun package of songs to entertain and delight. But no performance would be complete without the unexpected. The morning of our show, a helicopter crashed on the rooftop of one of the buildings. This jammed up traffic and our buses could not get to us. Kudos to New York City for having an amazing mass transit system. In full costume and make up we ran through the tunnels to get to Carnegie. Thankfully, this was New York City…we were the normal looking ones! The show was amazing, ending with a standing ovation for our performance.

We were also treated to a harbor cruise around Manhattan after the performance.  Even though the Statue of Liberty was not very visible through the fog, it was still wonderful to see from that perspective.

There was a very nice buffet and a fun “party” floor for those that wanted to boogie more than chat.  It was interesting to mingle with the performers from the other acts in our show as well as hang out with our sisters in song!

Performing at Carnegie wasn’t the only thing we did. We decided to have a fun flash mob at Grand Central Station with our new song “Happy“!  As we finished, transit authority was looking for our “leader” as apparently it’s not OK to just break out into mass song…who would’ve known!  We must’ve put on a great performance as we did not get arrested!
Second Annual Sonoma County A Cappella Festival

How exciting it was to bring together four local a cappella groups for the second Annual Sonoma County A Cappella Festival, or ACaFest! On June 29th, Song of Sonoma was joined by three local a cappella groups including Take Flight, VoCal Edition, and our Sweet Adeline region neighbors, Pacific Empire Chorus. Audience members enjoyed a wide range of music, from R&B, to pop, alternative, beatboxing, and of course some wonderful barbershop favorites. It was a joy to warm up with Pacific Empire Chorus and to see our regional champions perform.

We had a busy month getting the word out to our greater community about this talent-filled event. Small teams performed around town, and everyone was out and about advertising our event. Our efforts were met with a full house! We are proud to have brought our talents and love of a cappella in a variety of styles to our greater community.

SAVE THE DATE:  October 5 our fabulous, fun 60's show...
see our website for details.
June was jam-packed with fun, fundraising, education, coaching and performances.

Bella started off the month with a fundraising fashion show.  A favorite fundraiser of Bella‘s where we get to be runway models for the evening AND perform our favorite tunes!  What is better than that?
We had a wonderful experience at Harmony College Northwest.   What great education for members, both new and old.  There is always  something to learn.  The coaching opportunities... Just.Wow! Bella had some fantastic coaching with SAI’s own Lori Lyford & Jana Gutenson, as well as, BHS’s Will Fox.  What a steal of a deal to get coached by such masters at this all-inclusive, educational retreat we call HCNW.
The Saturday night entertainment never disappoints; it was Acappelloozamazing as usual.  The line-up was fantastic and included greats, such as Frenzy, Renegade, and Signature Quartet.  To top off the experience, Bella was thrilled to perform on stage!  We were so incredibly honored to be asked to perform .  The audience was warm and welcoming.  We had the time of our lives.

To finish June, we had a “home” performance prior to the last rehearsal of the month.   We have mentioned this before, but it’s worth repeating.  The last rehearsal of every month is our most highly anticipated due to our friendly (buahaha) quartet competition.  It brings out the inner diva in all, including shy, new members.  We perform for one another, adding crazy Choreo and choosing off-the-wall quartet names.  It APPEARS a fun, silly night without skill building; however, it’s secretly building stamina, rapport, imagination, confidence, and stage presence in a safe, friendly environment.
Sacramento Valley Chorus has decided to work smarter and focus our time and energy to be better singers.  Our goal obviously is to improve our overall score.  This summer, we are dedicated to extra rehearsals and renewing our individual performances to add to the whole of the chorus.  We realize that if you are committed to individual improvements then the finished product reflects the whole of its individual parts!

and our “THRILLER” attitude!
Summer Updates from Greater Eugene Chorus
Greater Eugene Chorus celebrated another wonderful year of music and friendship at our annual Installation Banquet in May. Smiles, laughs, awards, and harmony were shared at a fun night at Roaring Rapids Pizza in Eugene. Congratulations to Linda Fletchall for receiving the Director's Award and Gloria Jarvis for receiving the Sweet Adeline of the Year Award! We are thrilled to announce our new Board President, Gloria Jarvis! Gloria brings many years of experience on serving on the board, and she has already demonstrated her passion for the chorus community by initiating a new social opportunity for chorus members. Starting in July, GEC members are invited to meet up for a "Pre-Glow" on the first Monday of the month, before rehearsal, to swap stories, and catch up, and chat!

Summer rehearsals with Greater Eugene Chorus are filled with harmony, joy, and opportunities to build our music theory tool kit, thanks to our fearless leader, Lauren Kahn, directing our "music camp". Each week we explore a music theory topic that is relevant to the barbershop style. Who knew that hopscotch could help us with our harmonizing!?

Without a doubt, one of the most memorable experiences of the summer was the opportunity we had to sing with Garth Brooks as a part of an 800+ person choir that performed with him at his show at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. From the rehearsals with hundreds of people, to the dress rehearsal where we sang with Garth and brought him to tears, to the live show that had the largest audience the stadium has ever seen, we are so grateful to have this opportunity! We were honored to get to join Garth on "We Shall Be Free", one of his original songs with particularly powerful messages! Highlights from GEC chorus members included getting to build community with dozens of singers from our area (from over 59 organized groups) and hearing Garth give Sweet Adelines a shout-out on stage to a crowd of over 60,000 people. We've even had at least one guest as a direct result so far!
Summer is Sing Out season! Pacific Empire has been busy singing in our community.  We always love to share the gift of song and the joy of barbershop harmony.   In May we entertained the crowd at Sing Marin, a festival of local A Capella groups that sing before the finals of Harmony Sweepstakes.
All smiles after a fun-filled Sing Out for SING MARIN
Beginning in June, we sing before rehearsal at the local Wednesday night Farmer’s Market and invite local Petaluma women to come and check us out.

Speaking of recruiting new members, we held a Sip-N-Sing Guest night to introduce PEC to our guests.  We had FORTY-TWO guests!!! Yes, you read that correctly- FORTY-TWO!!!  We had a wonderful time introducing our guest to Sweet Adeline’s, the joy of singing barbershop, and sipping local wines!  Thank you, Wendy Gibson, for organizing and hosting the event at Bel Marin Keys Yacht Club!

PEC toasts our 42 guests at Sip-N-Sing!
Our last performance in June was at the Second Annual A Capella Festival hosted by Song of Sonoma chorus.  It was a great evening!  Thank you, SOS, for the invitation to join you for this fun event!

PEC looks forward to our annual performance at the Marin County Fair in July.   We help celebrate  the birth of our country and entertain the crowd with some patriotic tunes and love songs.  Always good to sing about love!

SAVE THE DATE:  On September 7, there will be a fundraiser for RetroActive at 3pm.  Stay tuned for more details!
PEC Performs at THE 2nd Annual A Cappella Show in Santa Rosa CA

California HEAT has been on fire 🔥 before and after our 3rd place small chorus victory at Contest in May.

We were busy raising money and having a blast at BUNCO on February 28! We played BUNCO. This fundraiser is a yearly event now.  If you have any questions about BUNCO, feel free to contact Sally Ainsworth who is our Special Events Coordinator/BUNCO expert.

We also celebrated RED NOSE DAY
Red Nose Day is all about raising money and helping to lift children out of poverty. All proceeds from purchasing a Red Nose from Walgreens goes to the Red Nose Day Fund which helps children in the U.S. and around the world. It is an annual event.
