The Ultimate
Road Trip
Long road trips must seem like an eternity to a 2-year-old strapped in a car seat.

We did a lot of them in April and May, 5,000 miles in fact. Dozens of books and crayons, hundreds of stickers, and many hours after embarking on our quest, we would arrive at “Oma house” or “Wampa house” or somewhere to visit “good frens.” Hadassah always spoke these phrases with the greatest joy and wonder, eyes shining, a grin from ear to ear. There were times of whining, times of tears, but the anticipated joy of seeing someone dear always won out and carried her through. And the destinations were nearly paradise for her.

Hadassah learned about frog's eggs and turtles, geese and raspberries. She also learned about airplanes, suitcases and sleeping in new places. There were uncles and aunts to take her for stroller rides and explorations in the back yard. There was always something fun to do and somebody special to do it with.

Of course, leaving was hard and after arriving home there were not a few requests to go back to Oma and Opa’s house. We had to explain that Oma & Opa and Grandpa & Grandma would come visit us in Bolivia soon. For now, the phone would have to do.

One night during family worship we were talking about heaven. Hadassah had learned that there would be no owies in heaven and she brought that up with great delight. Jodi started to explain more about heaven, how it is a place where we can be with people we love, that we will never have to say bye-bye, a place where we can be with Jesus. Hadassah sat quietly pondering and sometimes repeating the best parts back to Jodi. After a long pause she turned to me eyes full of joyful wonder and anticipation, a grin from ear to ear. She had hatched an idea for the ultimate road trip. “Daddy, get suitcases ready? Go to heaven!”

But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Audio Bibles
We ordered 40 Audio Bible devices in Aymara while in the States. This small device contains audio files of the New Testament, simple Bible stories and a Bible study guide, all in the local Aymara language. We have handed out six of the devices to ladies who don't read at all or even understand Spanish. They are a huge hit and we're excited about getting them into the hands of more people so that they can know Jesus better.
