Cities are growing in both size and number. By 2030, 60% of population (or 1 out of 3 people) will live in cities with inhabitants over 5 million. The number of megacities (population ≥ 10M) will be over 40. This is especially the case for most Asian countries. Urbanization has led changes in land use, water availability and air quality that collectively impact the meteorology and climate in various scales.
This workshop therefore attempts to provide a platform for practitioners, scientists and stakeholders to discuss the different aspects of urban meteorology and climate especially the Asian situations. The topics include but are not limited to:
- Air pollution/quality
- Extreme weather
- Land-use change
- Urban flooding
- Urban heat island
- Water availability
together with their impact on weather and climate. Oral and poster presentations are invited.
