Kampala Conference
May 12 to 19th
Review

The Amazing Trip Highlights:

The 8 day Kampala Conference was the best ever. The facilitators having been working hard and prepared every lesson with their personal life-impact stories. It was a smoothly run conference by Joyce Kidulu, the Country Director - professional, fun and interactive. Together they explored solutions to the intergenerational poverty trap, found to be the same in Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.
Watch out for the film clip due out early July !!!
Thank you to Medical Mission Aid, the Bethany Wake Foundation and other individual supporters for making this possible.

Mbale is the hub of WCFL.
The 18 volunteers have internalised this training and we could see it is impacting first their families and then the community. Each week they take banners and kits into schools, prisons and Compassion projects through rain and harsh sun. They are a committed team and are in great demand.

Volunteers from Mbale
They have a tiered system of mentoring new trainers to grow in numbers and maintaining quality and standards. Fred Mukisa and Janet Napokoli oversee and supervise 3 schools and 3 prisons each.

Breaking the cycle of poverty is an age-old problem. We need responsible caring, fathering and preparation for birth, a priority in community education. WCFL aims to train and empower leaders within Ugandan communities and further afield. This training is aimed at training these leaders through the gaining of knowledge in reproductive health, critical thinking and decision making, to help break the cycle of poverty.  Fred sees his role as a father as one whereby his children are his and his wife's responsibility to nurture and care for them and empower them to become responsible independent adults through education and role modelling. Imagine if all the fathers in Uganda were as responsible as Fred.

There are more stories coming next few weeks.
  • Our most immediate need is 4 tents. There are no assembly areas in prison and schools for large groups away from the heat and rain. So often lessons are cancelled due to lack of weather protection. Each quality marquee with steel poles is $2000 AUD.
  • Imagine how many more we can reach with outdoor community lessons in villages in holiday breaks.
  • Imagine the impact and encouragement when weekly prison sessions are not cancelled!

Tents needed for wet weather or hot sun.

How can you help?
