FLY THE FLAG

student work with leading artists to celebrate 70 years of universal human rights

This term NewVIc performing arts students have been lucky enough to collaborate with the Donmar Warehouse theatre on a project called ‘Writing Wrongs’. ‘Writing Wrongs’ is part of national public art project ‘Fly the Flag’ co-produced by a number of Arts organisations and charities including the Donmar Warehouse, the National Theatre, Sadler’s Wells and the Tate Gallery.

Inspired by Ai Weiwei’s Flag celebrating universal human rights, the Writing Wrongs project has brought together playwrights and poets with school and community groups to create monologues that explore what these rights mean to them personally.

The students worked with a film company to perform their monologues which will be released as a series of films during Fly The Flag Week between 24-30 June. They will also be performing the monologues live both at NewVIc and in locations around central London throughout that week.
