MBB-FBI: The NCAA says at least six athletic departments will receive Notice of Allegations in the coming months. More, "The NCAA continues to investigate potential rules violations stemming from the Southern District of New York allegations and subsequent court proceedings. We are aggressively and thoroughly pursuing information and using all tools available to us through the NCAA infractions process … Colleges and universities have a responsibility to run their athletics programs within NCAA rules. Our membership expects us to hold accountable those who fail to do so." (link); SBJ's Smith says of NCAA EVP for Regulatory Affairs Wilcox's comments at NACDA just a few days ago, "Some in the room were stunned, because they thought Wilcox might have shown prejudice by promising strong punishment. I fully expect schools under investigation to use that in their defense." (link); Yahoo's Forde & Thamel, "Those expected to be in the crosshairs and face the most significant penalties include: Louisville, North Carolina State, Kansas, Arizona, LSU, USC, Oklahoma State, South Carolina and Auburn. TCU, Creighton and Clemson." (link
Click 2 Houston continues its reporting of the Women's Soccer rhabdo situation at Houston, now says athletics leaders knew about the incidents as far back as January of this year. State Senator Bettencourt on the difficulty of getting to records, even via public information requests, "You can't have this type of behavior occur and then not have an explanation for it. The university owes the students and their families, and quite frankly the public, an explanation. Unfortunately, this is an epidemic that goes on with Houston institutions, the city, county. I'm sad to see UH is following it with every open records request ... being kicked to the AG for stalling purposes, in my opinion. This is not what I expect of a Tier 1 university that has made a lot of strides to get to that status and now they won't respond on an issue that really is a health and safety issue to kids in a soccer program. I am calling on them to do the right thing and tell the public what really happened." (link)
UMKC has a new primary logo that's more "fighting kangaroo" & designed to "illustrate elements of strength, determination and a commitment to the Kansas City community that aligns with the department’s vision and core values." Old Hat with the assist. Roos AD Martin: "Our new visual identity allows us to have a stronger connection with our students, fans, alumni and supporters on campus and in the local community. It represents our continuous pursuit of comprehensive excellence and our focus on being Kansas City committed." (link)
Alabama boss Byrne on the upside to coming Bryant-Denny Stadium improvements, "The money from Phase One in the Crimson Standard and the improvements to Bryant-Denny Stadium are going to help us get the revenue to pay for all the other things that we want to do." As for Coleman Coliseum, "It is all fundraising dependent. If we continue to make the progress that we have in development, that's going to give us the best opportunity to do that. […] I think the best case scenario is probably three to four years away from getting the shovel on the ground on that." (link)
William & Mary AD Huge has now led the Tribe for two years, reflects on her tenure. Interesting perspective on the ampersand in the college's name, "William & Mary Athletics is really characterized by the ampersand in the university’s name. Here, Athletics is core to the academic mission, and the academic mission is core to Athletics. They aren’t separate, they aren’t in opposition. [...] We are talking about winning. Let me be clear: The ampersand is in front of that. We’re talking about academic excellence and competitive excellence. They are both part of embodying the William & Mary Way." Priorities moving forward: Review & upgrade of Kaplan Arena, "program stability" & "achieving gender equity by 2025 is another priority. We’re currently undertaking an external review of our Title IX status; we have a plan and, like many other institutions, are implementing it to achieve a more equitable program." Lots more. (link)
Florida First Amendment Foundation Prez Petersen on Seminole Boosters becoming a director support organization for Florida State Athletics, "It's outrageous. It really doesn't make much sense to me, except they want to do everything secretly." FSU Prez Thrasher: "The idea has never been to be not transparent. The athletic department's going to be very transparent. Nothing's going to change in that regard as long as I'm here, I guarantee it." More Petersen, "When you take a college program, a state university program, and privatize it, there's only one reason you're going to do that, and that's to hide things. Why else would you do it? There's no advantage to it other than avoiding oversight and accountability." (link); "As long as I'm here" from Thrasher is going to be longer as his contract was extended through November 10, 2020. The coaches are on the frontline. They’re the ones who are identifying issues. They see the kids every day. In some cases, they’re getting closer to the student-athletes than their parents." (link)

Another Hill is headed to Charlotte to help lead the 49ers as AD Hill hires Old Dominion Assoc. AD for Student Services/SWA Hill as his new Executive Assoc. AD in the Queen City. Beginning with the sixth contract year of the agreed upon terms, Calipari has the option to step down as the head coach and become special assistant to the athletics director/university representative. He would receive $950,000 in annual compensation for the position." (link)

Buyout starts at $5M & decreases by $1M each year. Payout: "If Howard leaves UM before the end of his contract for basketball-related employment, Howard would be responsible for paying UM a buyout equal to half of UM's buyout amount." Turnkey Search assisted with the hiring process for $75K. (link, link)
Women's Sports Foundation Senior Director of Research and Programs Snyder says of women's sports HCs around college athletics, "This is the only example in an employment sector where women’s job share is declining rather than increasing over time." Notre Dame WBB HC McGraw: "Men network better. They have people calling on their behalf for every job. Women, we wait for someone to recognize how good we are. And we’re incredibly loyal—we’re afraid of what happens if we apply for another job and don’t get it." More on McGraw's "fight for Women's Equality" from Sports Illustrated's Dickey. (link)
Former star Duke MBB student-athlete Williamson wants out of an April contract he signed with Florida-based Prime Sports Marketing based on company Prez Ford not being certified by the NBPA & other missteps. George: "We come to work every day with student-athlete safety and wellness at the forefront of what we do." With expanded staffing, mental health counselors see around 35 student-athletes/week and 75% of student-athletes take advantage of this service during their time in Boulder. Chancellor DiStefano: "I’m pleased with the advancements the Athletic Department has made in all these areas the past six years under Rick George’s leadership. The Pac-12 and CU have been among the best in the nation when it comes to making student-athlete health and wellness the No. 1 priority." The Idaho Statesman's Roberts reports, "All four of Idaho’s four-year, publicly funded colleges — Boise State, Idaho, Idaho State and Lewis-Clark State — were non-compliant with at least one aspect of Title IX in relation to athletics during the 2017-18 school year." All four tell Roberts they plan to move the needle with "enhancement and/or addition of benefits for women rather than the elimination of opportunities for their student-athletes." Texas A&M approves the sale of alcohol to the general public at Kyle Field. Incoming AD Bjork: "I think what it does is it provides flexibility. We've been talking about that in the SEC for the last five years around this alcohol policy." FAMU had procedures in place regulating the transfer of funds which involved the CFO and school prez, but Prez Robinson notes: "We would meet every month on this issue and one of the recurring questions was…'are these funds coming from the appropriate places'…and the answer was always yes." The transfers have been occurring since 2016. An independent audit firm is being hired to investigate. (link)
