Board of Education Update

Highlights from the 6/10 Board of Education meeting:

• Passed the revised policies regarding equal educational opportunities and equal opportunity employment.
• After discussion regarding the overall need to decrease the amount of student testing, as well as teacher input for fine-tuning the tests and testing processes, the BOE approved Illuminate and MAP assessments for next year.  
• Approved the Lakeside High donation for classroom door lock hardware.
• Approved the reallocation of SPLOST IV funds for Smoke Rise Elementary.
• Superintendent search was officially launched, beginning with the request for quotes (RFQ) from search firms.  
• Passed a tentative budget, but more information-sharing and budget sessions will occur before the June 25th BOE meeting. 
• May 28-June 2, 23 graduation ceremonies were held at the Georgia World Congress Center with approximately 100,000 people in attendance.
