Kids programs here at Glade Road Growing this summer!
Kids in the Dirt– Saturday Farm education series with Glade Road Growing and the New River Land Trust
12 pm – 2 pm, $17/workshop
Ages 5-12
Saturday June 22nd Farm Animal Meet & Greet
Learn about how we raise our animals on pasture. Participants will have the opportunity to feed and interact with chickens, ducks, turkeys and pigs. Please wear boots that can get dirty. We’ll enjoy a farm fresh snack together to follow.
Saturday July 13th: Field to Plate
Build a true understanding where our food comes from and how our health and nutrition is affected by what we eat. We’ll engage all the senses while harvesting and washing vegetables and herbs in the field. We’ll chop veggies, make dressing and prepare a colorful salad to share.
Saturday August 10th: Seed Saving
We’re bringing things full circle in the final Kids in the Dirt session of the season on Seed Saving. We’ll learn about plants’ life cycles and explore how different plants reproduce. We’ll collect flowering plants in the field and cut up fruiting vegetables to clean and save seeds. We’ll enjoy a seed-focused snack to follow.
All workshops include supplies and a farm snack! Learn more and sign up here.
Kids Farm-to-table Cooking Camp
Join Scarlett Williams here at Glade Road Growing for our first week-long farm-to-table cooking camp.
July 22-July 26, 9 am – 3 pm
Ages 6-13
$255
Bring your young chef’s epicurean enthusiasm back to the source of the ingredients: land, soil, seeds, animals, plants and more. Campers will explore how to grow and cook a farm-fresh meal from the ground up using ingredients that are in season and grown here on our working farm. After getting their hands dirty, kids will wash up and commence cooking. This camp is a fun way to develop social skills, teamwork, expand your child’s palate, and their love of the outdoors.
